On Sunday August 18, 2013 Bedford Speedway hosted the 410's for the second time this season...Only 14 410's made the tow...Track prep was not the issue as 4 cars went below the previous one lap record set by Fast Frederick back in Twenty Eleven...What's the issue as to why they don't draw more cars...? :/

You can pick 1, 2 or more of the below reasons....

It rained most of the day east of Bedford...The sun didn't come out until after 4PM in Carlisle.

The season is winding down
Some big $$ shows have been ran
Many big $$ shows are left
Teams are saving equipment for big late season shows
Teams out of equipment
Sunday show...work Monday
Its a HUGE half mile also...Hard on motors...

All that being said...Give Bedford a freaking PA Speedweek race and lets stop visiting making double visits to Linc and Grove...Bedford has proven in the past they can get a good crowd with the right weather for a Speedweek race...It seems every time Bedford schedules the 410's it either rains or another track tries to go up against them.

BTW..I missed your link...??

Too far west for Posse & too far East for Ohio guys? This place doesn't get much publicity either...

$ 300 to start.  That was easy.

Do you think they are entitled to more than 3oo  to show up and unload to make a 14 car field? That seems like pretty good tow money to me.

What does Port or Lincoln pay to start a 25 lap feature...?

It was my first trip to the track...It remindes me of Port except, at Port, they need to take the mufflers off of the cars and put them on the microphone... wink

Yes.  But you do bring up a good point.  That is an advantage for all the sprint car owners in Bedford, PA.  Must be a mistake on my part.  I thought that was the purse money.  That was just the tow money and the purse was added to that.  Thanks for clearing that up.

I wasn't trying to be a smartass, If a race pays 3500 to win and 300 to start, and 14 cars show up I would say  if you are fast enough it was worth 3500 for the tow. If you are merely a participant it would pay no less than 300 to make the trip..........Van May

These tracks that don't normally run 410's are going to have the face the fact that there are few car owners with deep pockets who will race every time there is race left in Pa.. Only a couple of teams make money at a race add that to a work night and iffy weather and you have what they got. After this year there will only be a couple of full time hired guns left in central Pa. and I would bet they are secretly hoping that they can keep a full time ride long enough to finsh their careers.

Bedford preps the track perfectly.  They deserve all the support we can give them.   Cool place.

Luna's Ford engine style that won 2 WoO titles and 3
Kings Royals before a weight rule against the best EVER
in their prime and now DOMINATES super dirt late model
racing is no longer allowed/wanted in a WoO sprint
car.... Was Luna a miracle worker?

Although I think you are right about hired guns in PA, I hope it proves wrong. It has made many a cat a much better driver. Losing all the old time owners is a thing coming to roost in all forms of racing.

Really!!!???  Well if you want teams, who have already raced once or twice on the weekend, to pony up the expense to run a 3rd night, a Sunday night to boot, then maybe you should get your checkbook out and help out!  Also, maybe you can afford to do a few other things - like pay the crew members, driver and team owner for the vacation day they might have to take on Monday because of a Sunday night race.  When are people going to get it through their thick skulls that 97% of the best central teams are NOT full time race teams!  As a previous car owner it just pisses me off how you all high & mighty keyboad jockeys think it is so easy.

By now Bedford should have learned (& you too) that Sunday races that far away don't work.  So the best thing you can do now is go to these races, shut up and have fun & stop passing judgment on those that don't go and coming on message boards and bit$%ing about it.

no one forces them to race, owners to foot the bill, run as many events as you can in one season.  no play, no pay.

Ascot was the greatest of all time..

West Capital wasn't half bad either..

Life is good...

Excellent.  No one forces them to race.  So they don't.  No one forces the owners to foot the bill.  So they don't.  No one forces them to run as many races as they can.  So they do.  No one forces the whiners to complain about car count.  So they do.

So simply asking the question as to why more 410 farmers don't show up to Bedford Speedway makes me a whiner...? :/

It always is. Bedford is a cool facility but it's the least racy track I've ever been to. 5/8 mile is too big for sprint cars. As for the turnout, not many teams are gonna tow a couple hours on a Sunday night for $3000 to win/$300 to start.

It is a cool facility and for me, taking 70W-68W-220N, it's a breathtaking drive...The rain did narrow the track, however, like 1080 always says, it was a speedplant...

Reguardless of who shows, if they keep them on the schedule, I'll be there... Smile
