I live in knoxville and have been going to every race since the mid eighties with no trouble. Sure they may pull people on a burnt out light but it is better than never doing anything. If someone u loved got killed or injured by a drunk driver u would be sueing them for not doing more. Put it in perspective people, ur precious 5 minutes is better than planning a funeral. I wanna say thx to the knoxville police for keeping us safe all year. Especially when there is thousands of people in town, a lot of whom are drinking, I'm glad u do ur job to protect me and my family. Keep up the good work. If u don't come back to the nationals because a cop questioned u, u have an ego problem!

While in DUI class I learned from COPS what they can and will pull you over for, just to see if you had been drinking. A light bulb out anywhere is one reason. You were leaving an event where there is drinking going on. So getting pulled over for a light out, licence plate or tail light is a legit reason for them to stop you, and while doing so are checking to see if you reek of booze. The second cop was the one being the dick not the first. So it's best to make sure all lights and turn signals work/ there is nothing hanging from you rearview mirror, ect before you leave the house or before you pull away especially if your leaving and event where known drinking is going on. Problem solved. When i got my DUI they told be the reason for me being pulled over was because I turned onto a suspisious road. WTF is that.

I would much rather they pull over 10 people and find one drunk driver, rather than pull no one over and that drunk driver hit your families non lit license plate car and kill someone! They are trying to keep us safe. Sounds like you should get a new bulb. I was sitting by the camper and watched numerous cars so me how fast they could take the corner, howblong they could squeal the tires from the stop sign, and how loud there motor was. I told our group, those will be the idiots that get pulled over and come on hoseheads complaining they got pulled over for no reason. My guess is at 2 am you are not going to be late to something if you are pulled over, so get over it.

Don't be a dic or a bitch and you won't have a problem. Don't drive drunk and you won't have a problem. We want to enjoy the nationals again and again and don't want to be killed by some dumb ass drunk. Never had a problem with Knoxville cops or Iowa State patrol.

Topic: Does Knoxville have a problem? No they don't... Been going to Knoxville since the mid 70's. I have been pulled over once in that time. They had no reason to pull me over but they did. Checked to make sure I had valid Class A CDL and proper paper work. It really was no big deal. Seems to me they are just doing their job. if you have nothing to hide you will be on your way. But remember the one person they do catch could have hurt someone you do care about. So lighten up people and enjoy the Knoxville experience!!!

The attitude that only the guilty get pulled over, or only the guilty need fear police is precisely how police get away with trampling our rights any way they see fit. Cops lie, judges back them, you pay. That's American Justice 101. Nationals is a great event held in a fucked up little town. The cops there can lick my balls!

says the person violating probation.......
The bottom line is, yes, the Police Chief is a moron that should be replaced. The officers follow his example.
However, I have NEVER seen anyone that wasn't doing something illegal get in trouble, ticketed, or arrested. Any many of those have gotten a free pass from the law as well as long as they had a sober driver.
Even the original poster that is complaining didn't get in trouble, he got inconvenienced (big difference) becuase his car was not illuminated per the law. Amazing, seems like they let him off with a warning instead of a ticket like they would give to any local person in the same situation.
Face it, many of you WANT to find something to complain about because if you complain about the quality of the racing you will get eaten up by those that saw great racing (winner from 21st, 5th place from 19th). Crawl back into your hiding place until you realize you live in a land of laws. If you want total freedom from laws, you need to buy your own island and move there....

vande77, I will take exception to a few items you have here...................first, Eckert does bring it upon himself as to the trouble he gets into and he deserves whatever he gets, no disagreement there. But, on the other hand, I have received a seatbelt ticket even tho I had the damn thing on. Also, I received a stop sign ticket because the law officer felt I hadn't stayed at the stop sign long enough. And, a few weeks ago, a friend of mine was pulled over after a night of working on another friend's racecar because the deputy saw him throw a cigarette butt out of the window of the vehicle he was driving. Only thing is, my friend doesn't smoke. A year ago, I was coming home from a World of Outlaws Late Model race over 200 miles from home and it was after 2 AM when I was about 10 miles from home yet. I saw a oncoming car pull over to the shoulder of the road and wait until I passed then did a u-turn and began following me for three miles before he hit his lights and pulled me over. His reason? I had a rear license plate light out. How could he tell if I was meeting him? To say only those doing something illegal will get ticketed is not true. There are many officers out there that will write you up for anything they can and you can choose whether or not to fight it. No, I do not want total freedom from laws, I just want to see the laws enforced as they are written and supposed to be enforced.
Even last night, I was working on photos at the office (about a 17 mile one-way drive from home) that I shot at the Nationals until 1:15 AM and came home. I got into town and there was a deputy about a block away and I hit my turn signal for the corner and went 1/2 block and turned into the alley so I could put my car in the garage. The deputy comes racing into the alley, stops by my driveway, watches me go into the house, leaves and drives by in the alley five, yes, five more times after that. He had no business to pull that kind of bullshit. I was doing speed limit on the streets, used my turn signal (which does happen to be a law, too although very seldom will you see it enforced) and I do not drink alcohol at all (doc says no touch).
I don't know about Knoxville, but around here it seems that the local sheriff's department wants to rule as a police state.

I have lived in knoxville for 30 years and I've always thought it was a great place to live and raise a family. Not perfect but a great place. Now I read on here that I live by the gates of hell. Please enlighten us what la la land u live in. I'm anxious to know so I can move there because it must be happier than disney world. Everybody is happy, gets along, no need for cops because it is nothing but bliss and harmony. I'm going to put my house on the market today so please let me know soon where I need to go to live like willy wonka!

I watched a motocross bike ride around on the city streets with a cop right behind him. Kid on the bike pulls into his driveway and the cop just slows and drives right by. Why he didn't stop the kid I have no idea. I can tell you a dirt bike is way more illegal than just having a freaking license plate light out.
The county cops were following people all the way into their campsites at Red Rock this year just looking for anything to light them up with. On the drive to Red Rock this year you had better follow the laws to the T or your ass was going to get pulled over.
Some of what went on is not just looking for drunk drivers. Its bust the hell out of visitors to generate revenue for the city, county and local businesses.
Call it like you want (libtards, dics or bitches) but some people don't like getting harrassed over minor crap when they are not causing problems. Some of us don't drink or cause any issues but the law sure seemed like it was out to screw with people this year more than in the past.

$330 for a ticket for one less than half full open can of beer sitting in the cup holder of a golf cart. No one was acting stupid and no one was drunk. The guy ticketed was a passenger. A speeding ticket for 20 over the limit doesn't cost as much. Money grab is all this is. Kind of ridiculous.

No kidding, a cop who will pull you over after dark for not having a license plate light? Ha, where in the hell have you guy's been living, in a hole? That's SOP in every state in the union boy's. Every state, and hell yes they have their fingers crossed that you are, have been, or are being a bad boy or girl. It's what they do.
Half the lies they tell about me aren't true.
