As bad of an injury that Tony suffered, and no real race fan ever wants to see injuries like this, you can't deny that it's giving national attention to sprint car racing in general. ESPN has been talking about it all week. It's the ONLY good thing that could come from Smoke's injury. Get well soon.

I wonder how many people who became aware of sprint car racing this week wanted to check out he sports biggest race only to find out it can't even secure live television.

Maybe it was just me, but I thought the prelim nights had bigger crowds than in previous years, thought fri and sat might have been slightly down.

They don't WANT live TV. The last couple of years they had it, a lot of people went home on Saturday moring to watch it on TV so they wouldn't have to fight the Saturday night crowd.

I was unable to attend the Nationals and looked forward to SpeedCenter coverage which amounted to a minute and actually spent more time on Tonys accident. Sprint car racing as much as I like it will probably never get the coverage it deserves as it is hard to telecast and too much delay time. Needless to say but guys like John Force in NHRA,Dennis Anderson in Monster trucks, and most of the NASCAR guys make people want to watch and realize people are paying to see them.

Any gains in popularity as a result of Smoke's injury will be very minimal and very temporary. It will all blow over and then it's back to reality. Sprint car racing will never work on TV, live or otherwise, because there are more commerials and interviews than there is actual racing.

When my local news reported that Tony Stewart got hurt in the dirt cars with the big wings on the them I just laughed because he didn't even know what to call them! Then he goes on to say he shouldn't have been driving them because they are dangerous and he has too much to risk and how he is hurt and can't drive for Nascar!
Another interesting thing on our local news is that every Sunday our local news reports on how Kyle Larson does with Nationwide because he grew up not too far away from the Sacramento area! Last Sunday the reporter said Kyle had a dissapointing finish with Nationwide yet nothing about how he finished 6th during the biggest sprint car race in the country! Seriously, sprint car racing gets no darn respect or coverage for that matter! Even my friends have no idea what sprint cars are and they probably just think I watch fender cars because they say "oh yeah I know someone who drives those", lol!
Looking forward to the new Golden State King of the
West series schedule!
Winged sprintcars = the fastest and most exciting
racecars on dirt!

Minimal to none. Everyone has already forgotten about the funny looking cars Tony got hurt in. I did hear Rob Dibble, an ESPN radio talk show host refer to sprint cars as "the cars with the big fin on top" so that was funny.

Sprint Car racing will always be a niche sport and a stepping stone. This is as good as it gets.
Never hit stationary objects!
