USAC SPRINTS MAKE FINAL OCEAN SPEEDWAY APPEARANCE ON FRIDAY

WATSONVILLE, CALIFORNIA (August 7, 2013) - A busy run of four USAC Sprint Car events at John Prentice's Ocean Speedway Watsonville will close this Friday night, with the USAC/CRA and USAC Western Classic Sprint Cars invading the quarter-mile dirt oval track.

Race winners this season in the traditional Sprint Cars have been a who's who of Bay Area talents with Hollister's Ryan Bernal, Concord's Damion Gardner, and Campbell's Bud Kaeding topping their Southern California rivals to get to victory lane.

Gardner leads the USAC/CRA points standings ahead of his teammate Nic Faas.  The Huntington Beach driver pilots a nearly identical Mark Alexander-owned entry and the duo has won a combined seven races this year.  Chasing them down is five-time defending series champion Mike Spencer, with a lone win at the Tulare Thunderbowl to rank third ahead of Kaeding and Yorba Linda's Matt Mitchell.

Gardner and Kaeding staged a thrilling duel in June at the Santa Cruz County Fairgrounds track, with "The Demon" throwing a slidejob into turn one on the final lap to steal the win.  Kaeding will look to avenge that loss on Friday.

On the USAC Western Classic side of the equation, rookie DJ Johnson of Stockton leads the championship despite going winless on the year.  Second in points is two-time Ocean Speedway track champion Ryan Bernal, who won the series' appearance in April.  Kaeding won the Howard Kaeding Classic with the series in July, while 2011 series champion Geoff Ensign won at the Stockton 99 Dirt Track.

11-time USAC champion Tony Hunt is currently third in the points with Fair Oaks' Shauna Hogg fourth and Brentwood teenager Colton Slack the balance of the top-five.  Slack is a previous race winner at Ocean in the Wingless ranks and finished second to Bernal in April.

Friday's races for the USAC/CRA Sprint Cars also includes Four Bangers, American Stocks, and BAD Dwarf Cars.  Adult tickets are $20 with seniors 65+ $19 and kids ages 6-12 are $15.  Grandstand gates open at 4:30 p.m. and qualifying will get underway near 6 p.m.
