THIRD JOHNNY KEY CLASSIC QUALIFIER FRIDAY AT OCEAN SPEEDWAY

WATSONVILLE, CALIFORNIA (July 25, 2013) - A flurry of Ocean Sprints presented by Taco Bravo drivers will look to join Kyle Hirst and Bud Kaeding as locked-in drivers for the 2013 Johnny Key Classic during Friday's third Johnny Key Classic qualifier.  The qualifying feature at John Prentice's Ocean Speedway Watsonville earns the winner a guaranteed starting spot in the $10,000 to win Key on Saturday August 24th.

In addition to the four qualifying race winners, the two highest drivers in the points standings will also be locked-in.  Every other competitor that competes on August 24th will have to race their way into the 50 lap contest.

Brad Furr of Stockton continues to lead the series standings as he has the entire season, giving himself a safety net to qualify into the Key in his Price Rite Restaurant Equipment #2.  Furr would like to get his fourth win of the season on Friday night to extend his points lead and qualify into the show.

Furr leads Gilroy's Kurt Nelson in the Taco Bravo #72w who ranks second in the points.  Nelson trails Furr by 50 points.

Despite a 21st place finish last Friday night, Salinas' Jeremy Chisum has preserved third in the points standings.  Chisum's lead over Ryan Rusconi was only cut down by two points as Rusconi finished 19th in the feature.

Nick Rescino, Jr. is fifth in the series points ahead of leading rookie Nick Foster, Jr. of San Jose.  Bud Kaeding's top-five last week ranks him seventh overall despite missing several events this season.  Salinas' Jason Chisum finished ninth on Friday to rank eighth with Fresno's Koen Shaw and 2012 champion Shane Golobic rounding out the top-ten.

Johnny Key Classic laps are on sale through [email protected]  Each lap will be sold for $50 and be distributed to the top three finishers of that lap.

Friday's races for the Ocean Sprints also includes American Stocks, BAD Dwarf Cars, IMCA Modifieds, and Wingless Sprints.  Adult tickets are just $17 with seniors 65+ $16 and kids ages 6-12 are $15.  The family pass for two adults and two children is value priced at just $55.  Qualifying will get underway at 6 p.m.
