Damn I honestly dont think the next big 3 will ever be as popular as Wolfgang, Kinser and Swindell. they dominated the sport in the formative years of the Outlaws, taking us through the transition of wingless to wings and the era of television as opposed to reading the headlines or speed sport. Not taking anything away from anyone but these guys could start anywhere on the track and win or put a hell of a show trying. And they also had damn good mechanics, well Steve had Karl and thats about all he needed to know about the race car as far as Wolfie and Swindell they could hop out of the car and know exactly the tweaks the car needed. Damn I miss those days!!! Also before the big 3 there are guys that raced that are legendary and deserve there place and respect among racing even today many years after hanging up the driving suit, hell one that stands out in my mind that still puts a show to this day and was there when it basically all started is Roger Rager, had he of stayed in sprint car racing instead of going USAC during the split in sanctioning bodies there possibly could of been the big 4. Perhaps for some of us there can never be 1-2-3 cause there will always in history be those guys to compare to much like the name Opperman is still held above sprint car racing as a whole even 30 years later. Perhaps there will just be 4-5-6 thats up for grabs in some of our minds when racing was racing and the fastest guys didnt start on the pole of a dry, slick, dusty track thats become almost the norm in winged racing? I also think you have to definitely throw Haud in there somewhere as he represents old school racing as well, he may not win em all but he's definitely won em where it counted and has thrilled fans for many years trying with some of those daring moves of his. The thing that makes things stand out for me ecpecially is those guys where not only champions on the track they where off the track as well. To many times these days you see ego stepping in the way of a relationship to the fans. Some used to sign autographs till they turned the lights off at the track now you see alot pulling out almost running over fans in the pits with there movable houses on wheels.

Times are changing as with any sport like the big three ball sports! Just look Barry Bonds is getting ready to break the home run record soon and many people are not happy about this. Is the competition the same or equal for all competitors in each time frame being compared??? Who knows but one thing is for sure, hero's get older and young guns move on up as time goes on and if they can be successful they will become the heroes of the future.

I agree with the Wolf, Kinser & Smmy and Opperman Bubby Jones & Rager before them but today has a long way too go to match them
