With racing set to fire back off this weekend “KWS Tonight” will return to the net this evening as we highlight the 42nd annual Dirt Cup, young Buddy Kofoid, what’s on tap over the next month & feature some words with Dirt Cup runner up Peter Murphy, along with recent USAC National Midget winner Rico Abreu.
To view the show simply log onto http://www.kwssprints.com starting at 7pm Thursday night June 27. It will also replay on the homepage to view at your leisurely pleasure. The Dirt Cup last week saw Murphy win a preliminary night main event and back that up with a runner up finish to Jonathan Allard in the 40-lap finale. The Sydney, Australia native currently stands 8th in the King of the West 410 Sprint Car Series points, but is just 12-markers behind Brent Kaeding for seventh. Murphy also brought home a fourth place finish during the most recent KWS event on May 26 in Tulare. Abreu scored a third place finish at the Dirt Cup last Saturday and then flew back to Wisconsin on Sunday morning, which ultimately saw him claim his first career USAC National Midget Series victory. The 21-year-old passed veteran Tracy Hines for the big win aboard his Keith Kunz Racing machine. Abreu currently leads the KWS standings, but will compete in the Midwest over the summer & we’ll get an update on his plans. Young gun Michael “Buddy” Kofoid picked up his first career Sprint Car win last weekend at the Reno Tahoe Fernley Speedway driving for Dan Simpson Racing. The 11-year-old phenom dominated the Aims Inc. KWS Lites main event en route to victory. We’ll showcase highlights from the evening & also feature an interview we did prior to Buddy’s first Sprint Car start in April at RTF Speedway. It was certainly a historic night at the Fernley high-banks. This Saturday night at Placerville Speedway kicks off a big upcoming month of racing for the King of the West 410 Sprint Car Series and we’ll document some of the exciting action coming up. Other tracks on tap will include the Reno Tahoe Fernley Speedway, the KWS debut at the Stockton 99 Dirt Track, the HK Classic at Ocean Speedway, the first visit to Santa Maria Speedway in two-years and the second and final appearance of the season at Antioch Speedway. All in all it’s going to be a huge month of racing up and down California and into Nevada. The show this week will also be our final one with current video productions manager Brandon Skaggs, who moves on to the next phase of his life, moonlighting as a dancer in San Francisco. We want to thank Brandon for all the great work he has done with us and wish him well in his new endeavors. The pit gate at Placerville Speedway on Saturday opens at 2pm, with the front gate opening at 5pm, cars will be hitting the track for wheel packing around 6pm, qualifying is scheduled for 6:30pm and racing is anticipated to begin around 7pm. Fans are encouraged to arrive early as the grandstands always pack in at the Placerville bullring. Adult tickets on Saturday will cost just $20, seniors will be $16, juniors $12 and children $6. All seating is general admission during the night. The Placerville Speedway is located on the beautiful El Dorado County Fairgrounds in Placerville, California. Take Hwy US-50 to Forni Road/Placerville Drive exit. Then go north on Placerville Drive to the Fairgrounds. The physical address is 100 Placerville Dr., Placerville, CA 95667.
