Mark Dobmeier – Knoxville Win Caps a Great Weekend!

Lunstra Motorsports and Mark Dobmeier PR

June 26, 2013 – Mark Dobmeier and his Lunstra Motorsports team had a weekend to remember that was highlighted by a late lap pass at the Knoxville Raceway to capture his tenth career win at the famous half-mile.

The weekend started off by finishing sixth with the World of Outlaws in his hometown of Grand Forks, N.D. and ended with a podium finish of third at Huset’s Speedway. The weekend started off at River Cities Speedway for the annual spring trip by the Outlaws. “Dynamite” started the evening off being seventh quick out of the 36 cars signed in at “The Bullring.” That meant a second row starting spot in the heat, but that didn’t matter as he cruised to a popular heat race win, locking him in the dash. He would finish sixth in that dash to start outside row three in the 40-lap ‘A’ Feature.

A wild main event saw the Senske & Son J&J go forwards and backwards throughout with some very tight, intense action which resulted in a sixth place finish. Even though he came up a little short in winning his first WoO race at his home track, he was not disappointed in the race.

“Quite frankly we should have put it in the billboards a couple of times, “ Dobmeier admitted. “We were a little too tight early on and a little free come the end of the race. We’ll learn from the night and put it to use in August when they come back here. All in all, it was a good considering everything that could have happened.”

The long trek was on for Knoxville and the Mid-Season Championship night. Group time trials occurred for the 27 cars signed in and Dobmeier was eighth quick. He would move from fourth to second in the heat race, and with the inversion of an eight, he found himself outside the front row for the feature. But on the inside was the all-time feature winner, Danny Lasoski.

After trailing “The Dude” for the first 22 laps, Dobmeier found his way around Lasoski with a slidejob through turn three in his Big Trucks by Jimco #13 and held on by a few car lengths for his first feature win of the year there and also his fifth of the season overall.

“Man, what a race,” Dobmeier said in recalling the race. “We kept waiting for traffic and the yellow continued to come out when we would get to them. We finally stayed green long enough and were able to run Danny down and hung on. I did my best to throw it away missing the bottom to keep “The Catfish” behind us and we held on just enough. The extra five laps were huge for us obviously and we had another amazing track from the track crew.”

It was off to Huset’s to cap the weekend off with 17 cars signed in for the night’s action. There was extra money on the line to make it $3,000 to win from one of Mark’s sponsors, Sioux Falls Ford. After qualifying fifth quick and winning his heat from the fourth starting spot, Mark would line up for the feature outside row two, looking for his 50th career win at the track. A great battle in the top three positions through the latter half of the race with Tim Kaeding and Terry McCarl left Dobmeier finishing third.

“Obviously we come out here to put on a show and try to win the race, but that was one hell of a race we had between the three of us, “ Dobmeier said. “I hope the fans enjoyed that as that was how good Huset’s can really be if we have lapped traffic. Thanks again to Sioux Falls Ford again for the extra money. We’re pretty confident heading into the upcoming Outlaw show.”

The week brings only two planned shows with River Cities not running 410’s Friday night. So the team will be heading to Knoxville on Saturday and Huset’s on Sunday for one last night of preparation before the Outlaw show on Wednesday, July 3. The extra time will allow the guys some time in the shop to regroup and get things together after a few hectic weeks racing.
