Mark Dobmeier – Another Win and a Weekend of Racing!

Lunstra Motorsports and Mark Dobmeier PR

June 20, 2013 – Last weekend proved that Mother Nature wanted to see a few races for the Lunstra Motorsports #13, even if a couple of those races flirted with getting rained out. The weekend kicked off with a win in Canada and a couple World of Outlaws races sandwiched between a good run at Huset’s Speedway to end the weekend. The upcoming weekend brings the Outlaws to Mark Dobmeier’s home turf at River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks, N.D. on Friday. “We went up to Winnipeg at Red River Co-Op Speedway on Thursday with the NOSA guys to start the week off with a win,” Dobmeier said.

“We didn’t get home ‘til after 2am, went to run the business (Forx Radiators) for a few hours, and then headed south for the Outlaw show at Jackson (Speedway). It was good to start the week off on a winning foot even with the little sleep.”

34 cars met the Senske & Son Eagle at Jackson on Friday, and Mark ended up starting his heat race on the pole after qualifying 15th quick. After a heated battled with Outlaw point leader Daryn Pittman, a rocker arm broke while running in a dash spot of 2nd, relegating the team to the Last Chance Showdown. The team worked hard to change the Fisher engine to complete the LCS to make the transfer to the ‘A’ Main. Mark worked hard but crossed the line in 13th after starting in 14th for the feature.

“It seems like we moved up further than we did in the feature, but a lot of guys were stuck racing each other middle on back,” he said. “Obviously it was disappointing not making the dash, but it could have been a lot worse. We changed motors, and were able to put up an okay finish after the bad circumstances.”

The Lunstra Motorsports team was off to Knoxville for the last tune-up for the Nationals with the Outlaws on the card. The Sioux Falls Ford Eagle timed in 25th quick of the 43 cars signed in after going out late in time trials. Still, “Dynamite” was able to climb to a transfer spot in his stacked heat going from sixth to fourth to lock himself in. He started outside row eleven, and was working his way through the field until a right rear blew in turn two, sending him into the catch fence and for a tumble ending his charge.

“We hit the frontstretch wall a half lap before that so it might have had something to do with the tire blowing in the corner,” Dobmeier admitted. “It was a disappointing way to end the night because I think we had something to get in the top ten. We need to improve our qualifying for the Nationals and with the new point system to have any chance of running the top guys down.”

After switching out the Eagle Chassis at the Lunstra shop, it was off to Huset’s Speedway to try to end the weekend with his 50th career win at the bullring. The Big Trucks by Jimco #13 set quick time and won the heat after starting sixth and was looking for a sweep starting ninth in the feature. An early race caution saw Jason Solwold take a commanding lead and Dobmeier struggling with a tricky cushion as they came up short with a second place finish.

“I think we had something for Jason there early in the race, but we biked the cushion and fell back a couple of spots,” he said. “There just aren’t enough lapped cars right now to try to catch up any ground on good drivers like him when it goes green for long periods of time like that. We’re learning these tires, and getting ready for the Outlaw show in a few weeks to defend our win from last year.”

The upcoming weekend brings those Outlaws back to North Dakota for their first visit of the year in his home state and Mark is ready to defend the home turf. He’s still looking to capture the home town win for the first time with the series and this might be the week it happens.

“Last year we set quick time and were running in the top five when we got caught up in a mishap. I’m looking to learn from that and put this car in victory lane if Mother Nature allows us to get another race in back home,” Dobmeier said. “I can’t thank my guys and everyone that supports us because we’ve had a tough start to the year. We’re ready to turn it around and get some wins if we can get some races in.”

The rest of the weekend has plans for the weekly show at Knoxville weather permitting and finishing the weekend up on Sunday at Huset’s.

Mark is an excellent driver and competitor . . . he is what this sport is all about: He gives 100%, plays by the rules, give his fans plenty of time & attention, and when (like his comment on Solwold) other fellow racers do well, Mark will give them praise and credit.
