This past weekend i had the privelage of seeing the POWRI midgets @ Jacksonville. I had never seen midgets before ,so i made the hour and a half trip to check it out. My reaction was WOW !!! I honestly think it was the some of best racing i had ever seen. Friday night followed with world of outlaws @ burlington . This was damn good show also. Woke up saturday thinking about those midgets. Macon was only 3 hrs away so off I went to see the POWRI series again. Once again i was not disappointed . I still love winged sprints but now Im not sure midgets dont put on a better show. Dont crucify me these are just my thoughts.

Midgets have always put on a better show. I was kind of hoping that Midget racing would be the direction that my daughter would want to go in, but she fell in love with the wings. I am not even sure that it was the racing for her as much as it was the cars. I go to as many Midget races as I can in a year. I can see your dilemma dirt in ur beer.

I don't know how long you've been following sprint cars... but I'm just sorry that you're NOW seeing midgets for the first time! Throw a midget on a high banked 1/3 mile or smaller, and it's some of the best racing you'll ever see. POWRI is a great little series. The racing at the Chili Bowl is well documented, and other than Jacksonville/Macon that you mentioned, Spoon River near Canton, IL is another awesome midget track... as well as US 36 near Cameron, MO. Another top track to see midgets run is Belle Claire in Belleville, IL (little Belleville). It's a 1/5 mile paperclip with some decent banking in the turns... sliders/crossovers lap after lap if the track is right. July 5-6 is a USAC/POWRI combo show at little Belleville - should be great. USAC midget week is this week, Wed-Sun (awesome because the support class is nonwing sprints) another great time to see the mighty midgets in their element.

I'm surprised you went to Burlington for the WoO after seeing the midgets at Jacksonville! They were just up the road last Friday night at Lincoln Illinois, and had another good night of racing there as well.
USAC/POWRi has races scheduled for July 3rd at Tri City Speedway in Pontoon Beach Illinois for the Hut 100,and then a couple nights later on the 5th and 6th it off the Belle-Clair Speedway in Belleville Illinois for 2 nights of racing there. Belle-Clair is very similar in size and shape to Macon, and the last time I was there a month or so a go they had a cushion a foot and a half tall in the corners! Its always action packed there, and I try not to miss a race there when the midgets are on.

I agree that they put on great races. not quite ready to say that I prefer them over winged 410's but whatever, it's just personal preference. I went to a show a couple years ago at beaver dam that had IRA running w the badger midgets. the midgets didn't have a stellar car count, but still had very exciting races (2 heats, 1 A main). I was impressed that a few of them had spectacular flips in their heats, but were able to make it out for the A main. I'm sure their slightly smaller stature helps a bit with wrecks. what's the weight rule generally for a midget anyway?

might I add, I was very happy to see a show that didn't follow the norm of having 1 sanctioning body/class of car clearly the superior vehicles/drivers. would love to see more shows like this. plymouth (sheboygan co fairgrounds) does weekly shows with late models & 360's. they get a great turnout.

While I enjoy watching both, the midgets provide much better racing than the 410 sprints (and it is not even close).
