The video of the action at Ventura last Saturday (see http://www.hoseheadforums.com/forum.cfm?ThreadID=78058) makes it clear (again; I was there for the midget show three weeks ago) that the new clay at the beach has broadened the available lines a driver can use. Troy could =expect= to go high, find a cushion, and get a grip coming out of two and four, much like what we're used to at Tulare, Perris and Victorville.

I have received calls and emails from several suggesting that OSS needs more banking to make that possible. Which, of course, on a dirt (I'm not sure if that stuff is "clay" the way it rooster tails) overlay of an asphalt surface means... more clay. I certainly appreciate how much it cost to get the whatever it is that is being raced on at Orange Show, as well as the relatively low wall in the corners. And I (personally) am delighted to see what's going on there now.

But some say that the inability of most (though obviously not all) of the drivers to "use" the turns results in a "fast parade" with limited passing. (I only saw the video at http://www.hoseheadforums.com/forum.cfm?ThreadID=77990). And that may also result in decreased revenue at the back gate as well as the front.

Comments? Critiques? Harsh criticism? Vile invective? Outright vituperative? (Am I carrying a message for those who are being too critical themselves?) Let the games begin.

Sure, I'll fall victim to the "game". Here's my 2 cents worth:

  • It's another race track in SoCal for Badass Sprint Cars, Midgets, and Stock Cars to race. What could possibly be negative about that, unless of course you hate noise, dust, and the smell of methanol?
  • All the drivers have to race the same surface...regardless of where you're racing. Those who are complaining are not winning. That's normal.
  • There certainly hasn't been a lack of passing...the video documents that. The messages I have received tell the same story.
  • The opinions of the drivers matters a great deal...and so far the general consensus has been positive. Those who expected perfection on Night #1...sorry, this is the real world.
  • The fans are the true voice in this deal...and so far the general consensus there has been positive too. Sure, many have offered criticism...that's their job. They are the consumer. It is our job to cater to them. I think we have a long way to go, but we're definitely headed in the right direction!

Obviously, as with any brand-new deal, there will be growing pains. Constructive criticism goes a long way if taken seriously and action follows suggestions. Drawing erroneous conclusions however...welll, you know how valuable those are...you can keep 'em.

During each URA race event, I make it a point to ask the audience to contact me after the races via email, Facebook, Twitter, or message boards. I also make it clear that I want to hear the good AND the bad. We don't know what to fix unless we know what's broke. And we sure like hearing what we ARE doing right. Since the first URA race, I have received a decent amount of messages and phone calls. All are taken into consideration. I feel for you, raj...having to be the messenger for the several people that have contacted you with criticism of OSS. That's my job. Send 'em my way. Unless you've polled them and asked for those opinions directly, I must not be handling the "information highway" very well...or else they'd be sending me all those comments.

Thanks,

Doug Bushey

From what I have seen, in person the first race and on video for the second, I don't think the surface at OSS can support two grooves for 30 laps. But this is only the second race and definitely it's "so far so good". It looks more like DG than clay but I've been wrong before. If it is DG I don't think it will ever build a real good cushion. The new surface at Ventura looked racey on video and am looking forward to my first visit since the 90's on the 15th. All that matters is two exciting bullrings to choose from.

Question for the uninformed. How close are the engine packages for the VRA and WC 360s?

Doug. I only have one small, comment on your above statement.

"All the drivers have to race the same surface...regardless of where you're racing. Those who are complaining are not winning. That's normal."

While the first part of that statement is very true, the second, although possibly tongue in cheek is not. Even if we all have to contend the same surface, track position becomes tantamount to winning. Full inversion by qualifying time. See who is whining and who is winning then.

Disclaimer: I may mean some of this post. Other parts of it are on their own.

Thank you Buzzard. Although I was hoping to get away with being lazy and have someone tell me if one has a clear advantage.

Im only a photographer mate. I read them but my eyes glazed over pretty rapidly...

I would ask someone like Brody Roa who has run both, or even Danny Faria, I know he has run both, the Ennis car has been at both tracks and Adam Frith-Smith has been everywhere.

Just curious if someone could find an open weekend for an open non sanctioned show. I am a distant onlooker but it just seems that more tracks just means more politics. Unfortunately the days of just USRC for midgets and CRA for sprints can't be ressurected.

Would like to see the URA turn their limiteds into a regular 360 group and do some co sanctions with the VRA. Maybe 2 at Ventura and 1 each at OSS and Route 66

Ill fill you in on some VRA history. They don't really travel. Ever. Some of them will, but as a series Naylor can not convince them all to travel. Once bitten twice shy.

I would love to see a WC 360, VRA, any other 360 series battle Royale.

Chowchilla, Hanford, Santa Maria, Ventura, Orange Show, Victorville showdown. One race at each track for a California 360 crown. Hell, add Watsonville and Placerville to the north and Stockton to the central, Perris to the Southern. 10 shows one season. King of California non wing 360!

Hell, chat with me at the track, im full of it!

It's not a bad thing, but that's why I've alway's called the VRA a "club" and there were many back in the day.

This day and age that's too much traveling. Doubt you could pay a big enough purse to get a large enough contingant to hit all 10 races. Would be good though.
