If you do not know the words to our National Anthem, either write them down before you attempt to sing it at a race in front of thousands, or do not attempt to sing it at all; whoever they have at I-96 WoO tonight absolutely BUTCHERED the National Anthem.

Thought I was the only one that noticed that. I agree, it was kind of embarrassing.

I am fed up with celebrities singing the National Anthem and injecting their own version into it and ruining the way it was meant to be sung. I attend races at the Amzoil Speedway in Superior WI where a lot of Canadians are in attendance. When the Canadian anthem is played most of them sing along and it is evident they hold their anthem as something special. Not that way with the American anthem. Hardly anyone sings along and often you couldn't follow the awful rendition put forth by the singer if you wanted to. Yet these venues allow this to go on. Shame on us Americans for allowing this to happen.

I have been to a race or two when the mic went down or tech difficultys caused prob.s and the crowed sang it no problem. But yes by and large most americans are disrespectfull. And take your dam hat off when its sang too.

We were there and noticed the flub in the middle of the song. Another person mentioned the mike messing up but I really don't think that was the issue because she tried to skim over the words she didn't remember. Last summer Butler Motor Speedway had a 8 or 10 year old sing it and they did a better job than this adult. Check out the person before you have them sing something as important as our National Song in front of a large crowd. Music with the crowd singing along would have been more impressive.

AMEN!!!! Remove the hats.

Being a Viet Nam vet I may have a little more reverence for the flag than most people so when I see someone keeping their hat on I tend to get a little reved up. This was the case at the Amzoil Speedway one night and I was about to ask a person to remove his hat when my wife reminded me of all the Canadian fans there. At this track anyway it's a good chance that people wearing the hats might well be our Canadian friends who are not obligated to show the reverence we want from our own citizens. By the way the Canadians are some of the most loyal fans I've ever seen. They come mosty from Thunder Bay area to enthusiastically support their fellow countrymen on the track.

Perhaps the greatest version of the anthem.... And done by a celebrity at that. Play it loud, play it proud my fellow Americans! Enjoy! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d9l4LMZeNm0&feature=youtube_gdata_player

In the mid eighties my daughter and I had the pleasure of attending a football game at Penn State. It seemed that everyone was singing the national anthem. Have not experienced that same feeling since that day. My preference is to have a group sing the national anthem. That way no one is trying to impress.

I am a Canadian yet have been to many hundreds of US events where your great National Anthem was sung. I have had a couple of semi-altercations with clowns that wouldn't remove their hats and I've worn a hat for the past 25 years or so. Nothing pisses me off more than the lack of respect by morons (usually half drunk or worse) when the song is played or sang. The strongest thing one can say about America and it is spoken around the world involves the word patriotism. No country has more and shows more which makes it the greatest country on the planet!

I guess it is just one's personal preference. Knoxville has this guy that gets up and plays it with a harmonica and every time he does everyone in our area just shakes their head and feels it is terrible and disrespectful yet there is some that applaud when he is done. I don't know if they are just applauding for the patriotic reason and it is our anthem or if they actually like it. 100% of those in our surrounding area think it is terrible.

This is my favorite track opening I have attended. A good invocation and then Ray Underwood singing the National Anthem. I don't like pre recorded anthems. All a track has to do is check out the person singing before hand and have them do a dry run. The whole thing is worth watching but if your in a hurry go to 3:00 in the video.
