The way I read it.... If you use both wings from the kit, have 4 wheels and keep it under 5oz its all fair game Smile Too bad I wont be in town yet...

Gravity only -- it is being run by Boy Scout of America Rules per what Al told me on the phone.

Must use the wheels and axles provided in the kit, no altering of wheels or axles.

You can use dry graphite powder on the axles to help the wheels spin faster though.

I still have 2 of the 3 Pinewood Derby cars my Dad& I built back in the 70's during my Scouting days.

I think he had more fun doing that stuff than I did at the time.

I'd love to see them go down a track again someday........

We had pinewood drag cars back in the 80's with CO2 cartrages in the back. Do they still race them like that in the Boy Scouts?

not for Pine Wood Derby they don't

Most rules have evolved to only involve gravity (to take parents that take over thier kids' project) and for safety reasons.

Last time I went to one of these the scouts were neat and clean and the dads were coated to their elbows in graphite.

My pinewood derby cars from '79 & '80. We did the graphite thing and sanded the tires, too. Tried to make the '79 model look like a sprint car; it was the slowest one of the bunch. Smile

The first post reads:

2: Car must have four wheels ( there are many aftermarket wheel available which is fine)

Vande77 posts:

Must use the wheels and axles provided in the kit, no altering of wheels or axles.

There's a huge difference in performance. Would like to know which rules you plan on using. Thank you...

Vande 77 states that the wheels and axles provided in the kit with no altering of wheels or axles. Although the rules state just the opposite. Also, glad to hear it is gravity only, just wish the rules stated that also. We will bring both just in case, but from experience with adult charity races in the past, gravity is a lot more fun and brings a lot more cars.

Why do you have to have wings? 5oz. is 5oz. We have done this for the last 5 or 6 years at the Belleville Midget Nationals, 70+ pine wood derby entries, kinda like the midgets were 20 years ago. It pays 100$ to win 25 for 4th, plus other consulation prizes thanks to the fairboard. Good luck with your event, but I aint putting no damn wings on my car!

The first rules I posted are what will be followed. This is meant to be a fun fundraiser for us and the NSCHoF. I just built three car for a event we did last week. I had aftermarket axles and wheels on mine it was slower than the two with stock ones I built... From What I have learned getting the axles in straight and being right at 5oz are the two big key ( where you put your weight is huge ) Lets not over think this lets build some cars have a lot of fun and raise some money!!!

1: Must use both wing from the kit 2: Car must have four wheels ( there are many aftermarket wheel available which is fine) 3: Max weight of 5oz... No motors

Thanks Big Al
