For Immediate Release

HISTORIC "SALUTE TO INDY" SPRINT CAR RACE AT PERRIS AUTO SPEEDWAY ON SATURDAY!

(Perris, CA, May 21, 2013) One of the longest running sprint cars races in the country "The "Salute to Indy," will take place this Saturday night, May 25th, at "The Southern California Home of Major League Sprint Car Racing," Perris Auto Speedway. Joining the popular
series on the big night will be the PAS Senior Sprints, The PAS Young Gun Sprint Cars presented by The Sprint Car Driving Experience and the California Lightning Sprint Cars. Spectator gates will open at 5:00 PM on Saturday and the first race will get the green flag at
7:00.

Dempsey Wilson, grandfather of current USAC/CRA driver Seth Wilson and a four-time participant in the Indianapolis 500, won the first "Salute to Indy" in 1948. Since the race inception, a total of 42 different drivers have won the prestigious event. The late Dean Thompson has six "Salute to Indy" wins and that is more than any other driver.

Thompson's wins came in a car owned by Bruce Bromme Sr. Bromme's son, Bruce Jr., who was inducted into the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame in Knoxville, Iowa as a mechanic two years ago, is the crew chief for defending "Salute to Indy" winner and 5-time defending USAC/CRA champion Mike Spencer of Temecula.

Spencer comes into Saturday's event as one the hottest sprint car driver on the west coast. In his last four races he has two wins (one non USAC/CRAS race), including last Saturday night's USAC/CRA main at the Thunderbowl Raceway in Tulare, a second and a third place finish. However, due to a DNF in the second race of the campaign in Peoria, Arizona in March and a blown engine while leading The PAS season opener, Spencer is third in the championship point standings heading into Saturday's race and he trails point leader Damion Gardner of Concord by 92-markers. Gardner's teammate, Cal State Fullerton student Nic Faas of Huntington Beach, is second in the standings.

Gardner, who also leads the USAC/CRA Series with three wins including the last one at The PAS on May 4th, is no stranger to victory circle in the "Salute to Indy". The wiry driver won the race in 2003 and 2004. In the 2004 staging, he was driving for current Spencer car owner Ron Chaffin and Bromme Jr. was his crew chief at the time. Chaffin and Bromme have one other win on their side of the "Salute to Indy" ledger and that came in 2003 when Richard "The Gas Man" Griffin was steering their bright red #50.

In addition to Spencer and Gardner, other former winners shooting for another "Salute to Indy" victory on Saturday night are Rip Williams (1983 at Ascot), David Cardey (2010 at The PAS)
and Matt Mitchell (2011 at The PAS).

As well as the current stars and drivers, three legendary Sprint Car heros from the past and past "Salute to Indy" winners will be on hand for a special autograph session with the fans before
the races on Saturday. 1974 winner and 5-time CRA champion Jimmy Oskie, 1977 winner John Redican and Eddie Wirth, who won in 1985, the same year he also won the CRA championship, will be signing autographs and posing for photos in The PAS sports bar.

After legendary Ascot Park closed in 1990, the "Salute to Indy" went dormant until the Kazarian family resurrected the race when they opened Perris Auto Speedway in 1996. Current NASCAR Sprint Cup racer J.J. Yeley won the first one in 96.' Since then, besides Yeley, Spencer, Gardner, Cardey, Griffin and Mitchell, Mike Kirby (1998 & 2002), Troy Rutherford (1999), Tony Jones (2006), Blake Miller (2007 & 2009) and Cory Kruseman (1997, 2001
and 2005) have posted wins. Kruseman would have been in this year's race, but suffered a shoulder injury at The PAS season opener and is out until at least June 15th. The race was rained out in 2005.

As well as the premiere sprint cars drivers west of the Mississippi competing in the USAC/CRA Series on Saturday, The PAS Senior Sprints, PAS Young Gun Sprints presented by The Sprint Car Driving Experience and the California Lightning Sprint Cars will also be in
action.

As this piece was going to press, it was announced that The PAS will taking donations of racing shirts and caps as well as toiletries for the victims of the Oklahoma tornados. Full details to follow.

Tickets for Saturday's battle on the famous clay of The PAS are $25.00 for adults. Seniors get in for $20.00. Active military members with proper id, teens 13-18 with their school id and kids 6-12 get in for just $5.00. Children 5 and under are free.

Not trying to be nit picky, but I believe that it was 1985 when Eddie Wirth won the race and championship not 1975.
