FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
URA RETURN TO ROUTE 66 MOTORPLEX MAY 11, 2013 FOR "MOMS ARE WINNERS" NIGHT
(San Bernardino, CA, May 8, 2013) This Saturday, the stars of the United Racing Association return to do battle in Round #3 of the Unlimited Sprint Cars at the "Fastest Clay Oval in the High Desert", located at the San Bernardino Fairgrounds in Victorville, CA. Also on hand to trade slide jobs will be the Open Competition Dwarf Cars and U.S. Legends Modifieds. To celebrate Mother's Day, Dirt Entertainment, the URA, and Route 66 Motorplex will be offering a $5.00 discount for all moms accompanied by a child.
A stellar field consisting of the finest traditional sprint car drivers on the West Coast is expected to slug it out for bragging rights and a chance to take home $2,550.00 in cold, hard cash at the conclusion of Saturday night's Unlimited Sprint Car Main Event. To view the full purse, which is guaranteed and will be paid out in cash at the conclusion of the night's events, click here.
On April 27th, the newly re-surfaced Orange Show Stadium played host to the First Annual Robert "Doc" Griffin Memorial race for the URA Unlimited Sprint Cars. In storybook fashion, Mike Spencer of Temecula, California took home the checkers after a fierce battle with current URA series contenders "The Demon" Damion Gardner of Concord, CA and "Sick" Nic Faas of Huntington Beach, CA. Spencer, driving for car owner Ron Chaffin and mechanic Bruce Bromme, drove a near perfect race in the Madera Produce, Grubstake Mini Storage, and Kaeding Performance sponsored "Lil Red Sucker" Maxim (#50), which was successfully piloted by Richard Griffin of Silver City, New Mexico, who is the son of the late Robert "Doc" Griffin. The two Mark Alexander owned, Scott Sales, "Silver Bullet" Spike Chassis entries of Gardner (#4a) and Faas (#4) finished 2nd and 3rd, and are now tied for the series point lead. Currently 3rd in points is Riverside, California's David Cardey, who drives the Tom and Laurie Sertich owned, Huntington Beach Glass & Mirror "Moose Racing Mobile" Victory Chassis (#92). Also slated to return to the Route 66 Motorplex this Saturday are the Open Competition Dwarf Cars. The Dwarf Cars are scaled-down replicas of 30's and 40's coupes, sedans, and pickup trucks. They are powered by 1000 to 1200 cubic centimeter motorcycle engines. Although small, they produce some major horsepower and provide some monster excitement. The High Desert warriors will take on a variety of travelers in a dirt track showdown that you won't want to miss.
This Saturday's card will be completed by the 2nd appearance of the U.S. Legends Modifieds, or the "L-Mods" as they are affectionately known in the pits. These too are scaled-down replicas that represent the glory days of super modified racing across the country from the sixties and seventies era. These awesome oval track roadsters are powered by spec European Yamaha 1250cc motorcycle engines which must be one hundred percent factory stock. If you've ever wondered what it would be like to race a hot rod sideways around a clay oval, this is a very affordable and fun series to get you started. For more information, stop by the pits after the races and talk with Mel Murphy of Circle Track Performance. You may also email Mel at [email protected] or visit www.uslegendcars.com.
