SHANE GOLOBIC TOPS THE OUTLAWS AT ANTIOCH AFTER RED HOT START TO 2013
FREMONT, CALIFORNIA (April 9, 2013) –
2012 Ocean Sprints champion Shane Golobic of Fremont captured the
biggest win of his career on Friday night, storming from the outside
pole to the World of Outlaws win at Antioch Speedway. The victory was
Golobic's first against the Outlaws to add to his red hot start to the
2013 season.
"Definitely by far
my biggest win. It's like the pinnacle of what we do in open wheel
racing. Beating the outlaws - they're the best, bar none. In my
opinion, the Outlaws is the best of the best in the Sprint Car world.
It's something I'll never forget and no one can ever take it away from
me."
The win came driving
Joe Vonschriltz's #121 entry that Golobic has driven to wins
throughout his career. The relationship between Vonschriltz and
Golobic began when the San Jose State engineering student was 16.
"I can't say enough
about (Joe). He took a chance on me when I was 16 and we had some
early success followed by a sophomore slump but he stuck with me,"
Golobic said. "There's no car that's better out there and it makes my
job a lot easier. Even though we're not a big outlaw team, we have
equipment that's just as good."
Golobic used his
lapped traffic experience from running bullrings such as Ocean Speedway
to win Saturday's event. Starting outside front row, he battled with
2012 King of the West Jon Allard but finally was able to break through
on lap 10 for the lead in heavy traffic. World of Outlaws championship
contender Joey Saldana closed the gap on Golobic to within two car
lengths, but Golobic fended him off to win the 30 lap contest.
After winning the
2012 Ocean Sprints champion, Golobic has gone on a tear across the
country in a variety of different race cars.
Golobic finished
fifth in the USAC National Midgets Turkey Night Grand Prix at Perris
Auto Speedway in November. In January, he climbed aboard the Wilke-Pak
Motorsports entry against 270 entries for the Chili Bowl Midget
Nationals in Tulsa, OK and put together an outstanding seventh place
run in the feature.
His March runs with
the Outlaws included a fourth place finish at the Mini Gold Cup in
Chico and a sixth at Merced. Golobic also finished eighth against the
Civil War Sprints at Antioch as well..
"I've been blessed
with the opportunity to drive a bunch of good cars and different types
of cars," Golobic said. "We've been able to come out with some good
finishes. The past year or so we've just been going really good.
Hopefully we can make this season the best one yet."
The 2013 season for
Golobic will include numerous starts in the 2011 Ocean Sprints champion
Keith Day Trucking #22. The team will hit nearly the entire Ocean
Sprints remaining schedule along with several ASCS races. All told,
Golobic will run numerous times at his home track in Watsonville across
Ocean Sprints, King of the West, and USAC.
His first start at Ocean will come on Friday night against the Ocean Sprints presented by Taco Bravo regulars.
"Well obviously
coming off the win, I'm definitely bummed we won't make it to Hanford.
But I'm really excited to get in the 22 car and get going with them,"
Golobic said. "Really excited to get working with Rick Bragg and all
the guys. They're really helping me out with an awesome opportunity."
Other races on the
slate will include numerous King of the West starts for Joe Vonschriltz
and USAC National Midget starts in May at the Hut 100 and a trip to
Belleville, KS for the Belleville Midget Nationals in August.
