FORSBERG CLAIMS $3000 HAUL WITH OCEAN SPRINTS WIN

WATSONVILLE, CALIFORNIA (April 6, 2013) - 2011 Placerville Speedway and Civil War Sprints champion Andy Forsberg of Auburn stormed to a $3000 victory on Friday night at Ocean Speedway Watonsville, in round two for the Ocean Sprints presented by Taco Bravo. Driving Cody Geaney's PT Shocks #7c, Forsberg picked up $1500 for the win along with a $1500 bonus from promoter John Prentice for being a Civil War regular.

Forsberg's victory came in unlikely circumstances when Watsonville's Justin Sanders suffered an apparent engine failure on Clayton Snow's #7 while leading with six to go. Ironically Sanders' team provided Forsberg with ignition parts after mechanical problems for the 7c team during hot laps.

Forsberg was a last minute addition to the field after a 360 event at Silver Dollar Speedway was rained out as well.

"I think it's cool they're giving us $1500 extra to come down and do this. The cockiness in me wants to say 'yeah I had Justin Sanders no problem' but he was fast," Forsberg said. "I felt like I was getting better in the end. I think it was going to get good but it really only matters that we won."

Salinas' Carter Train led the 21 car field to green for the 30 lap feature, but flipped from the lead in turn three before completing the first lap. The restart slid Sanders into the pole position for the complete restart. Outside polesitter "Cowboy" Craig Smith tagged the wall and spun into turn one at the start, but was able to keep going despite falling to the rear of the field.

San Jose's Nick Green spun the Konnected Clothing Co. #14 in turn two from third place to bring out a caution on lap two. The next stoppage was a red flag for Ridgeline, Washington's Zach Zimmerly getting upside down on lap 10. Zimmerly tangled with both Altoona's IA's Carson McCarl and Smith leading up the melee, but they were able to continue on.

Seventh starting DJ Netto of Hanford worked his way up into third by the restart but jumped the cushion in turn one and went into a wild nose dancing flip on top of the wall. The 2012 Rebel Cup champion was uninjured.

The race went green for the next 12 laps with Forsberg and Sanders trading blows for the top spot throughout heavy lapped traffic. The entertaining duel was slowed by cautions on lap 22 and 23 for solo spins. On the lap 23 restart, the action really intensified for the lead until lap 24 when Sanders' entry went up in smoke on the front stretch.

Forsberg paced the field over the final six laps for a comfortable victory with Stockton's Brad Furr holding off Green for the second position. Gilroy's Kurt Nelson was the only other lead lap car, grabbing a fourth place finish.

"It was redemption after lap two doing what I did down there in turn one," Green said. "It was a good night and dad gave me a good car. I had to get up on the wheel because of the position I put myself in. We're off to a hot start. It's a big momentum sport and we'll just keep rolling onto the next one!"

Brad Furr drove the Price Rite Restaraunt Equipment #2 to the Ray Scheidt's Electric fast time for the second consecutive race and also has the points lead in the Ocean Sprints presented by Taco Bravo. He did not accept the Nobel Construction Back Row Challenge.

The DDNi Hard Charger went to Salinas' Jeremy Chisum, who finished eighth after starting 21st. Heat race wins went to Netto, Forsberg, and McCarl.

The Ocean Sprints presented by Taco Bravo return to action on Friday April 12.
