ROUND TWO OF THE OCEAN SPRINTS FIRES OFF FRIDAY NIGHT
WATSONVILLE, CALIFORNIA (April 3,
2013) – Round two of the 2013 Ocean Sprints presented by Taco Bravo is
this Friday night, with Stockton's Brad Furr carrying a target on his
back after winning the season opener at John Prentice's Ocean Speedway
Watsonville.
Furr claimed the win
and fast-time last Friday night under heavy and wet track conditions
on the Santa Cruz County Fairgrounds quarter-mile. Furr's #2 Price Rite
Restaurant Equipment entry sailed past Watsonville's Justin Sanders on
the 29th lap to claim the victory.
San Martin's
"Cowboy" Craig Smith in the Taco Bravo #39 returns this week after a
third place finish and a great battle with the Konnected Clothing
Company #14 of San Jose's Nick Green. Salinas' Jeremy Chisum piloted
the Chisum Brothers Racing #8 to a career best fifth place finish as
well in his third season at Ocean Speedway.
Friday's action will
be the second opportunity for drivers to take Earl Stanton's Nobel
Construction Back Row Challenge. The Ray Scheidt's Electric Fast Time
qualifier will have the option to start at the rear of the field for
the 30 lap feature. If the driver can manage to take the victory, he
will win a $1500 bonus on top of the $1500 in posted awards. Combined
with the $100 fast-time and $100 DDNi Hard Charger, the driver would
win $3200 in total prizes.
Other drivers to
watch this week will include Morgan Hill's Nicholas Ringo, who worked
his way up to eighth before a mechanical failure last week, and heat
race winner Koen Shaw of Fresno. Steve Osborne is expected in his Get
Som Sports #9j along with Nick Rescino, Jr. in the Rescno Racing
Engines #11, Jeremy Chisum in the Eks Brand Goggles #25z, Kurt Nelson
in the Taco Bravo #72w, Nick Ringo, Jr. in the Lana Industries #96, and
Ryan Rusconi in the Dynicron Cylinder Heads #98.
2013 Rookie
contenders include Des Moines, IA's Chris Martin, San Jose's Nick
Foster, Jr., Pleasanton's Nathan Washam, and Hollister's Tomas Bray.
Friday's races for
the Ocean Sprints also includes Four Bangers, American Stocks, BAD
Dwarf Cars, and Wingless Sprints. Adult tickets are just $17 with
seniors 65+ $16 and kids ages 6-12 are $15. The family pass for two
adults and two children is value priced at just $55. Qualifying will
get underway at 6 p.m. with fan gates opening at 4:30 p.m.
