thats pretty good of you David and the mayor to clarify things a little.
Although no one can or will give a definitive answer as to the long-term future of the track......at least we know it is runnin through 2010 (or is it 2011). Whatever comes in the future the racin community will deal with then.
As to my opinion......I don't think there should be an asphalt track here. The nextel cup already has their set races........the Busch series runs on some tracks that nextel doesn't but that seems pretty full as well. the ARCA-Remax series looks like a flop to me.......other than when they race Daytona it doesn't look like they ever get any kind of crowd. All these situations are likewise with USAC or IRL. I just don't see any real interest in it. There are some tracks that run NASCAR santioned stuff weekly....... but again there is absolutely no interest in it around here. There's no base to pull from except that of SFS. And SFS is a good solid track-------has a couple of problems no doubt.......but as a fan it doesn't get much better. I think with a couple little improvements made to the grandstand - and maybe that rulebook as well-----we will not only have the best track in the state right now but for a long time to come as well. As much as some of us fans gripe (like me) we are lucky to have what we do at state fair speedway.
thank you to David Smith and to Mick Cornett for settling the current issue.

We would never get a nextel(or sprint) cup to Okc. They had to take away Darlingtons date and give to Cali for the Labor day race. I dont think Okc is that much higher in the grand schemes of NASCAR than Dalington. Arca does run a few dirt races on the big mile track in Springfield Ill. IRL and CART do not have much have an appeal to a broad base of fans I think in the Oklahoma area although some of the IRL races have been close. The trucks I could see as a possiblity but the track would have to be at least a 1/2 mile and at that the trucks play demo derby. Like fan said there is not much of a draw of pavement cars in the okc area but we got at least four more years( not counting this one) to figure it out.
Thanks David that was a good thing.

When I talked too Lanny, and I had already thought of this, he mentioned several cities that tried asphault tracks and then finally went to dirt. Dodge City found out the hard way, Lakeside Speedway in Kansas City was dirt, thought it would be great ashpaulted then went back to dirt, Lebanon I-44 Speedway in Missouri went to dirt, Odessa I-70 was asphault, went to dirt then back to asphault and now has a dirt track behind the grandstands of the asphault track and Tri-State Speedway in Pocola. That type racing just doesn't go over in alot of cities where dirt racing has a reputation.
I am 100% of bettering racing and special events here in OKC but let's do that to SFS and not start over from scratch.
At least now maybe everybody will worry about SFS closing in four or five years instead of bringing it up at least twice a year. I think there will be more to come on this issue but it will be several years yet. So, just enjoy the moment and what we have.
