Carson McCarl – Season Kicks Off in Watsonville Friday!

(Bill W) March 27, 2013 – While Carson McCarl tries to find some partnership to secure a ride in the Midwest, he will spend the next three Fridays in California racing at Ocean Speedway. He is partnering with Craig "Cowboy" Smith to race weekly 360 shows at the bullring in Watsonville. Meanwhile, he is searching for a sprint car ride for 2013…anytime or anywhere.

Carson is going to be spending some time in a state where his father Terry campaigned early in his career. "We've talked about racing in California the last couple of years," he says. "He's said it would be good for me to run out there, so we've been talking about it for awhile. Finally, it's a reality."

The Altoona, Iowa high school senior will be running Smith's backup car. "We'll be running the next three Friday's in Watsonville," says Carson. "It will be a good way to get the season started…to get a little something in."

Everything will be new for Carson this weekend. "It's a track that obviously I haven't run at," he says. "Also, I'm going to be seeing competition that I've never seen before. I'm excited for it."

He has been trying to familiarize himself with Ocean Speedway. "I've watched a ton of videos from there," says Carson. "I don't think I'll have trouble adjusting. It looks like it changes a lot. It can be really rough, and sometimes slick to the fence. I'm sure we'll be fine."

The youngest winner and season champion at Knoxville Raceway is still seeking something to race. "I'm still looking for a ride back home or anywhere," he says. "I'd really hate to miss the season at Knoxville or anywhere else. I've got a couple things I'm trying to get in the works, but nothing for sure. Unfortunately, our main sponsor stepped back for now, and we are looking."

Meanwhile, he'll get some laps in California. "I'm out here getting to know the guys and the car," says Carson. "I'm excited about getting the season going."

Father Terry explained why both Carson and his brother Austin are looking for rides in 2013. "Last year was Hell (running the teams out of the TMAC Motorsports shop)," he says. "It was a lot of fun having the family together like that, and having the success we did, but we can't do it again. Both boys are really good drivers. They are proven. They need to get out on their own and find something. It's time for them to step up and see how much they want to race."

Hope all the McCarls get something good put together for this summer and get to race on a regular basis.
