Jason Statler finishes 9th in Antioch to cap weekend
By Gary Thomas
July 10, 2007...Los Gatos driver Jason Statler got his fix of racing this past week with three night’s of racing action as the Summer heat definitely kicked into gear. This was just Jason’s second week back in the DF Rios Construction 00 and with still getting everything sorted out, he and the team headed to Chico’s Silver Dollar Speedway for a special 4th of July Wednesday night event to kick off the week. The weather was about 105 in Chico on Wednesday and it felt every bit as hot, if not more than that.
Lining up on the front row of the opening heat race, Jason blasted into the lead at the waving of the green flag and never looked back picking up the victory in the DF Rios Construction, YAK Graphics, Kaeding Performance No. 00. The 25 lap feature saw Jason start from the 12th position and he moved forward quicky getting up to the top five within 10 laps. After doing battle with a couple of the other competitors, Jason ended up finishing the race in sixth aboard the Pheasant Run Shopping Center, Stephanie’s Custom Interiors, Weld Racing No. 00.
Jason and the team returned to Chico on Friday for another point race and Jason once brought home another heat race win for the 00 team. "The Big Guy" lined up from the 12th position yet again in the feature and he was moving his way forward when the motor began to lay over. While running around eighth, Jason slowed during the last couple laps and fell to a 14th place finish.
The third race of the week was at the Antioch Speedway bullring with a night sanctioned by the Golden State Challenge Series. Jason qualified 13th quick before finishing second in his heat race. Starting from the 13th spot in the feature, Jason ran a smooth 30 laps and at the checkered flag he brought home a ninth place finish in the Trimble Motorsports, Brad Scadden Design, Engler Machine & Tool 00.
As of this past weekend, a trailer for Chico was still up in the air but if one pans out look for the Double Zero machine to be in Chico for two night’s of racing action beginning with a track point race on Friday. Saturday night will see the Golden State Challenge Series invade the Silver Dollar Speedway for race #23. Jason sits just one point out of the top five in the GSC standings and will look to bump his way back into the top five this weekend.
