Matt Streeter has week of 2nd’s

By Gary Thomas

July 10, 2007... As the Northern California weather heated up, so did Lathrop’s Matt Streeter as he and the Orth Family Racing team tallied a trio of solid runs during the 4th of July week. After winning for the third time this season the previous weekend in Placerville, Matt & the No. 24 team looked to make up some ground in the JPM point standings.

The week began on the 4th of July with a Wednesday night race at Silver Dollar Speedway. Temps reached to around 105 and it made for some very tough racing conditions. After getting involved in an accident in his heat, Matt was forced to start the 20 lap wingless sprint car main event from the 17th position. The former BCRA Midget champ was on the hammer and immediately began to carve his way forward through the thick pack of wingless warriors.

Matt was up to third when leader Darrell Hanestad broke with a handful of laps remaining. It gave Matt an opportunity and he closed to the rear of the leader and looked for an opening aboard the M & S Racing Engines, A.R.T. Enterprise, Vaughn & Family No. 24. Matt put heavy pressure to the rear of leader Charlie Marrs but he couldn’t get by and settled for a still stout second place finish after coming from the ninth row.

Friday night in Chico saw another wingless point race at Silver Dollar Speedway and after finishing second in his heat, Matt lined up in the fifth position for the 25 lap feature. The Orth Family Racing machine was hooked up and Matt moved around veteran Jason York midway through the race to take over second. He closed in on leader Brandon Davis but couldn’t get by and brought the Elkhorn Station Roadside Bar & Grill, Mike German & Sons, T & T Trucking Inc. No. 24 home in second.

The final race of the week came at the Placerville Speedway where Matt was victorious at last week. Matt lined up on the front row of his heat race and picked up the win in it aboard the Orth Family Racing 24. The main event again saw Matt start from the front row and he blasted into the lead at the green flag. Lap nine saw Matt lose the lead to Hanestad and after that he ran smoothly in second. At the checkered flag Matt brought home his third runner-up finish of the week.

After the grueling three days of action Matt now finds himself 20 points behind leader Brandon Davis, and 14 back of second place Jay Youngman. This Friday will see Matt and Orth Family Racing once again compete at Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico.
