How does a PA 358 compare to a good ASCS motor? How much HP/Torque does a good PA 358 produce?

Generally, the PA 358's seem a half step behind the URC boys, who in their own right are a tough bunch. A couple of the high-end 358 teams like Pat Cannon have a 360 to strap in when URC comes to town. That's been my observation at least. ASCS hasn't made there way over here in the past few years so it would tough to gauge that but there are a fair amount of 410 teams that own 360's and would be willing to put it in if the ASCS made its way over.

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I think URC360s are allowed 2 7/16 injection while ASCS is only allowed 2 3/16.

The difference that I see, from my seat in the stands, is that the 360's crash way more often...
Opinions may vary...

What's a "half step"? Does that mean 50 horse? 100 horse?

If you look at lap times when they run a 358/360 show at Selinsgrove, the difference looks to be 2 tenths of a second a lap around a big half mile in TT trim. With the higher compression I would think the 360s would have the jump on torque in traffic. 358s do sometimes win these races, not often, hard to say how much of that is motor and since the guys with 360s are usually the bigger names and budgets as well.

I agree, that's why I'm interested in the numbers. I've never seen HP and or Torque numbers advertised for a PA 358!

Does anyone know? Any engine builders on-board?

You wont get any where unless you call a few engine builders and make your own assumption

A few years back in the URC/358 challenge, I think it was Cory Haas in a 358 who pulled Kenny Adams by a straightaway in his 358. At the time, I thought KA was invinceable in a 360. We were proved wrong that night.
Then a few years before that, the Southern ASCS region went up to the Northeast to challenge the 358's, and I think only one 360 made it into the A-Main that night.
