Yawn!!! No creativity again. How do you expect to be a leader when you can't even follow
More weight, more regulation, more similarity in the
cars.... that will ensure plenty of thrills for years
to come. Only the most average talent behind the
wheel will be needed with such awesome equipment on
the track!

What else do you want them to have? You get weekly high caliber sprints with 2 outlaw shows not includeing the nationals and cappy classic. The hobby stock, stock car, modified shootout in the early part of the year plus the Harris Clash later on, Late model nationals. a hairball concert, a rodeo, and the Nationals. The only thing they took off is I don't see the AMA flat track race.

This is a race track. They have a very good schedual I would say. Tell us about all the creative ideas you have. Who knows they might hire you to run the show so you can create all the things you want. How about a drivers pie eating contest, and bob for apples. I think the schedual is great, now you tell us what you would do.

I just wish there were more races after the nationals...and make up dates for rainouts at the end of the season...it just ends so soon there...could race up until the late model nationals...would just have to talk the old farts on the fairboard to actually do something different for once...

I agree with wanting the season to be longer, its always so depressing the weeks after the Nationals. They take the next weekend off then race the last one, then theres a month off with beautiful warm weather and no cars on the track. The PA tracks seasons seem to go much longer.

They probably don't want to contend with College football. Also the locals are pretty well used up by then equipment wise and financially. I agree that it does suck but its the way it is.....JMO

The main reason is kids. They go back to school they have no workers. Most of the kids in knoxville are in sports. Small town not many kids so there is a chance for them all to play most of the time. the parents are going to their kids school stuff not to the races, and you cant blame them. I remember when i was in school we started alot of times the week after nationals. Not only that most of the iowa guys that race have jobs and kids, how do you make them choose between their kids and racing. You cant car counts will drop. Its a tough deal id love to see more races but its just not feasible in that environment.

the crowd is another big reason.

The last two weeks of the season are big time $$$ losers, they only get about 1/2 of the normal crowd from the summer months.

I've been attending races @ Knoxville since 1981, one thing has remained constant, once Nationals is over, nobody has anything to look forward to anymore (Fans or Racers), so the car count and fan count dwindle quickly (and not to mention that the local fans are tapped out financially from 2-3 weeks of major events with expensive tickets (360 Nationals, Cappi Classic, Nationals and possibly Monster Jam Monster Trucks this year). Exact opposite of how the year starts, car counts increase as you hit the summer months and more people start showing up in the stands leading up to the Nationals in hopes of seeing some travelers race for a standard ticket price.

As for creativity, what do you want? You want them to race bombers or dwarf cars every other week and drop the sprints?

I wish the AMA was coming back, but I don't think that was a Knoxville decision, I think the date of the race was an issue for the AMA (they wanted a Summer date, so that would have meant no sprint cars in the heart of the season).

The tentative schedule has Monster Trucks (Monster Jam) on it the week after Nationals (how much more diverse do you want, it's nothing like what we've ever seen @ Knoxville). BTW, the people that own Monster Jam own Supercross and Motocross. Ever think if that event goes well that they may think about having a Motorcross race in Kville (that would be AWESOME).

Here are some of my thoughts in answer to your question: track has been raced on 8 nights in 10 days; there have been 10 sprint car races within 30 miles of Knoxville within the past 16 days; 8 nights of racing in 10 days at Knoxville Raceway= worn out employees and tapped out fans. Also it seems to me Knoxville went dark that following weekend because that weekend was the Jackson Nationals in Minn and the tradition of having that weekend off continues for the previously mentioned reasons. Just my two cents worth.

thats one reason. the other most locals are broke by then. we spend alot of money the week of nationals just like out of towners. mostly tshirts an beer for us rather than hotels but none the less a small community like knoxville needs the week to recoup, so we can afford one last night.
