"Some media members believe this pairing is and will be the biggest story in NASCAR this season. It’s a giant stretch in my opinion and is actually an insult to a sport that has tried its best to reinvent itself in the off-season with new cars and old fan favorite policies in hopes of igniting more interest." A lap around the NASCAR world and a look at some of what’s been passing as news stories over the last few days.
The countdown to Daytona is officially on with only two weeks left before the season starts in earnest. In the meantime here are a few observations to while away the time before thankfully cars are finally back on track:
Patrick-Stenhouse Frenzy Apparently the story of the century broke last week with the revelation that Danica Patrick and Ricky Stenhouse, Jr. were an item. What had been rumored for months was finally confirmed when Patrick confessed to the Associated Press, “I have a boyfriend and his name is Richard.” The ridiculousness that followed was beyond embarrassing.
It’s a “story” I guess when two competitors are dating, something which is rare in professional sports (as far as we know anyway). Of course in NASCAR these days such a revelation is front-page news, especially since it starts with D and ends in Anica. There may be some competitive ramifications for the new couple but how does it differ from brothers, fathers, sons, uncles and even a husband and wife in Elton Sawyer and Patty Moise back in the 1990s racing against one another?

Most believe NASCAR is heading in the right direction on the brink of the 2013 season. Nothing could be further from the truth if the Danica-Ricky dating game commands more headlines as the year rolls along.

“I have a boyfriend and his name is Richard.”
Well there you go. Confirmed. She does like Dick.
Besides that, I really don't care what is going on off the track. If I want to watch racing on Sunday, I will watch racing on Sunday. If this kind of stuff really appeals to anybody, Grey's Anatomy is on Thursday nights. (I know because I go into hiding in my house on Thursday night) I really don't care where Nascar draws their interests from other fans. If they put a good product on the track, I will watch it. The clocks ticking though. Better improve quickly because I don't really care who's doing who.

Lets say Ricky is leading a race late or in position to race for the win, lets say Danica is a lapped car. Danica loses it and wrecks Ricky taking away a top 3 or a win. No one is missing that post race interview.

Who cares. It's old news already. She can't drive her way out of a wet paper bag.

I'll bet if you lined the bag with concrete walls or grass she would bust through it!

Isnt anyone going to ask Ricky why ? Could do so much better all the way around. Guess he likes the grade school boy with long hair look. Have seen her about a dozen times on and off the track and never once thought she is looking good. One man's opinion.

Story of the century, you have got to be kidding. These are two adults that can handle things themself. I am sure they read the forum for your advice. I am sure that if one spins out and the other driver hits them we will be back on forum for some new story of the century. You do not have a dime in the process, so why worry?

probably the same reason nobody asks you why you're with your boyfriend? It's not their business
do it in the dirt

I think after they wreck each other enough times, or he lets her off the hook when he should have passed her on the track, they will break up, or he will get fired from RFR.

Back in the 90s NASCAR Busch Series drivers Patty Moise and Elton Sawyer got married, and as far as I know, they still are.
Thank God there was much less media hype then.

I quit watching Nascar thanks to her and the nascar announcers, every freaken one of em, talking like she's a racing star. Always putting a spin on everything that happens.
One of top 5 cars in the field in the Nationwide series and the only time she passes cars is during yellow flags when her great pit crew gets her out in front of 6 or 7 cars that within 10 laps of the yellow will have already passed her and put her in her familiar 15th to 18th position. About 7 to 9 start and park cars behind her and another 10 low budget or no budget cars behind her. Given all the seat time she's had at tracks they rented for her and all the races she's run including Indy car, any of 40 or 50 young drivers out there, if given the chance, would be running in top 5 routinely, like Ricky Stenhouse.
