KWS Lites division to make splash at the Reno Tahoe Fernley Speedway during 2013 racing season
By Gary Thomas
Fernley, Nevada – January 22, 2013…The motorsports community in Northern Nevada is eagerly awaiting the 2013 season at Reno Tahoe Fernley Speedway and the Winged Sprint Car crowd will get even more than expected, with the announcement of the newly formed KWS Lites.
The initial meeting for the class was held in mid-December in Fernley, Nevada and featured nearly 30 people representing 18 teams in attendance. The basic concept behind the Winged KWS Lites division is to help organize the many Economy Sprint Cars in the area that utilize low cost engine packages, such as those seen in Spec Sprints.
“I think it was a very productive first meeting for the KWS Lites division,” said King of the West Operations Manager George Hague. “We are very enthused about having a 12-race series for the Lites and look forward to working with Gary Thomas on helping to promote the division, much like we have with the King of the West 410’s. There will be a championship fund & weekly purse announced in a few weeks, with 10 of the 12 races counting towards the championship.”
Rules packages are currently being finalized for the KWS Lites and another meeting will be held prior to the start of the season. A consistent set of rules will be put together to make things equal for all the competitors involved and to keep costs down. There have been a number of Economy Sprints race throughout Northern Nevada and the idea is to build an organization and tie it all together at RTF Speedway.
“We will continue having meetings to get everyone on board with what we are doing,” commented Simpson. “We’re really excited to get the season started at Reno Tahoe Fernley Speedway, because it’s going to be a great year. We also look forward to working with the Ruby Mountain Winged Sprints in the 2013 year as well, which is really going to help build up an economic sprint car class for people to get into.”
More info on the KWS Lites can be acquired by contacting the KWS Series office at 707-374-2222 and will also be on our RTF Speedway website that is under construction at http://www.rtfspeedway.com

What are the rules? Is it a steel 350 block, 11.5 to1, 4 barrol intake, with a holly 4412? or is it a 305 injected class?

My Opinion dose not matter on this subject and, I don't know a heck of alot about the motors but, maybe keep the spec rules but, lighten the block or aluminum heads with the same camshaft and, the 4 barrel carb. they can get a little better speed. Also isnt the 358 wing class in PA fairly cheap? I am not real sure but, seems to be a real popular support sprint car class..

the 358 class in PA is not cheap to compete...and even less cheap to field a car that can win.
steadily pricing themselves right into the 410 class...and that is a good thing IMO.

Did not know all that. I am all for, fuel injected newer GM crate engines. It's cheaper to make power and, less rebuilds and cost on rebuilds is cheaper. maybe fielding a class of it's own would be cool.

It's basically centered around the spec sprint rules that are in California. We'll have the full details on engine package here soon.

Lose the wing and run the spec sprint rules everyone else runs. That thing acts like a parachute with those motors. Stop trying to reinvent the wheel!

What is the point of allowing roller camshafts for this class? We now have 3 sprint car classes in the area based off of a cast iron 360 with a 2 bbl carb...all of which have different rules!

then start you're own program the KWS is promoting Wing sprint car racing not non wing besides there is a small select group in Northern NV that runs the spec's with wings... I think the roller cam will help a lot = more RPM if I am not mistaken would have liked to see a higher flowing Carb. or Injection but then you're talking about more cost. Can anyone tell if a roller cam is going to change the speed or rpm the motor will see?

There are actually quite a bit of teams in Nevada that run the Winged Spec Sprint deal & as Slidejob25 said, we are trying to promote Winged Sprint Car racing. The KWS Lites class is what modern day 360's started out as before things got way out of hand, so this is hopefully a way for someone to get into the sport in a more economic way.
