Rager: "I think every track he went to he got something, we never did discuss it, but I think that Jan got paid everywhere he went just to make sure he was there". This obviously in addition to purses paid.
Then a few pargraphs later he sort of hints that Stevie Smith, Kenny Weld and Bobby Allen were also guaranteed money to be at tracks. The promoters of these tracks talked regularly with each other and made sure that they had one "big hitter" coming in. Rager: "Well, that's how they got good drivers at different racetracks, I mean, that way they didn't all end up at the same track, to keep everybody's show to where they had plenty of spectators in the stands".
From Flat Out or Sprint Car Magazine's Nov or Dec issue, can't remember which. I had typed this on a "word" document and saved it last month and fogot to post it here until now.

Great article.... Loved the part about unhooking Jan's trailer all the time, and forgetting to tell the new drver about the NOS and ending up in the pace car near the hot dog stand....
Paying the top drivers to show up at different tracks for the fans seems like a brilliant idea and a great way for track owners to support other track owners. One of the many reasons PA tracks are still going strong after so many years....
