Out of the clearl I received a beautiful four-color brochure from an outfit I have never heard of nor would I want their services. It is VIKING RIVER CRUISES and I see they have an ad at the bottom of the messeage page after you post.
If H'S's is releasing our info to them I am deeply disappointed!

We got one too but it was addressed to my wife. She has never been on this site. I'm sure it had nothing to do with this forum.

No matter how secure you think you are on here, or anywhere else on the 'net, there are things called tracking cookies and NOTHING is sacred. It is sad but reality.

the ads on the bottom of the message board are tailored to each persons browsing activity.
i take that to mean that not everyone sees the same ads. they are generated based on individual browsing tendencies.
if you share a computer, possibly your wife was surfing someplace or something related to travel or recreation and based on that the ad showed in the space you are referring to.
the web advertising is getting pretty advanced these days and can target specific ads to people based on what browsing history shows their interests might be.
it might be just some co-incidence, but where web advertising is concerned, co-incidence is a very long shot.
oops, i replied to the wrong post, but you get the idea.
to indy and beyond!!

Nah...my wife doesn't do puter stuff. I just found it interesting that one day I get this beautiful brochure and the next day I see this company with an ad on this site. Makes you wonder...and I'm very cautious about where I go and also my "cookies!"

Just set your browser to not store cookies.
Also, use this! It finds all trackers on the page you're viewing, provides info on each, and allows you to block them if you wish.

And if you're curious who is tracking you while you're online, check this add-on out.

I did not receive a brochure however, I did receive a call from mwilaski telling me that I was too stupid to know how stupid I was...So, I invited mwilaski to explain to me in person just how stupid I am and I guess he was too busy eating jerk chicken to take me up on that offer...
'
How, you say, did I know he was too busy eating jerk chicken...?...Because he's a jerk and a chicken...
Opinions may vary...

If HH's is releasing info .. I personally will volunteer to take the cruise at no charge to me and give a detailed write up of how it was and post it here
More weight, more regulation, more similarity in the
cars.... that will ensure plenty of thrills for years
to come. Only the most average talent behind the
wheel will be needed with such awesome equipment on
the track!

I would say coincidence. Its been awhile ago now since I made my account on here but I don't remember even having to giving a home address, so even if they are giving out info of users to an advertiser all they would get would be your email addresses. As someone said before, most advertising today on webpages is related to your browser cookie history, which means the ads on different sites are based on your search history, not the site your on. If you've booked a hotel or something on orbitz or kayak that would more likely be the culprit, though I've booked alot of hotels on those types of sites and never got mailings.

I don't book rooms online.
I don't order ANYTHING on the internet.
I only have eight sites I visit.
Just seems strange to me.

Yes, I'm five and holding...
.
.
I was merely expressing my experience of an invasion of personal information that was ascertained here @ hoseheads...
.
.
With that said, I'm guessing that the caller must have realized that I don't give a flying phuck what he, or anyone else for that matter, thinks of what I have to say...Furthermore, I don't see that feller coming on here and disputing that it never happened in the first place...
Opinions may vary...
