Streeter & Orth Family Racing pick up win #3

By Gary Thomas

Placerville, CA - July 2, 2007... Following a tough night where engine problems forced Matt Streeter & Orth Family Racing to scratch after heat race action, things turned for the better in Placerville and ended with Matt bringing home the third win of the season for the Orth Family Racing No. 24 team.

Going into this past Friday’s point race at Silver Dollar Speedway, Matt had closed to within five points of the lead in the JPM wingless sprint standings. The team looked for good things, but after a few laps in the heat race, Matt slowed to a stop in turn four with engine issues. The 24 machine was a scratch for the remainder of the evening and the team worked all night to fix the engine and be ready for Placerville on Saturday.

After working on the engine till 5 am, the Orth Family Racing team made the short drive up Highway 50 to Placerville Speedway’s high banked 1/4 mile for another JPM wingless sprint car point race. Matt started fifth in his heat race and drove forward to bring home a second place finish aboard the M & S Racing Engines, Vaughn & Family, A.R.T. Enterprise No. 24.

The main event saw Matt start from the pole and he blasted into the lead at the waving of the green flag. The Lathrop driver was mashing around the top of track but he soon had company in the form of Darrell Hanestad. Known as the "Hammer," Hanestad is one of the top drivers in wingless spec sprint racing having won a huge amount of races in his career, but Matt remained poised and held off the veteran driver every step of the way. Putting the previous night behind him, Matt powered on and picked up the win aboard the Elkhorn Station Roadside Bar & Grill, T & T Trucking Inc, Mike German & Sons No. 24.

The busy week of action for Orth Family Racing will continue this Wednesday night with a special 4th of July event at Silver Dollar Speedway. The racing will continue on Friday with another night in Chico, then it will be back to Placerville on Saturday. Matt sits 38 points out of the lead, but this week will be crucial and can make or break any chance of bringing home the title.
