ELK GROVE, CALIFORNIA (November 8, 2012) - Tim Kaeding moved closer to being the
top driver of the 2012 California Sprint & Midget Power Poll,
holding the lead again in the second to last poll for the season.
Despite struggles at the Trophy Cup, Kaeding closed out his 2012
California campaign with a second place finish at Calistoga Speedway to
maintain the lead. Kaeding's accomplishments this season include eight
wins and 21 top-fives in 29 starts. Those stats are enough to rank
Kaeding as #1 in both statistical analysis and the media poll.
Hot on Kaeding's
heels is Mike Spencer after winning the $12,500 to win Oval Nationals at
Perris Auto Speedway last Saturday, against the USAC National Sprint
Cars. Spencer led the poll throughout the summer but faltered late in
the season with the media as the USAC/CRA schedule slowed down. With
Saturday's victory, Spencer is now a five-time consecutive USAC/CRA
champion in a historic season.
Roseville's Sean
Becker used a win against a 40 car turnout at Calistoga to leap into
third place in this edition of the poll. Becker has had many
career-defining accomplishments this season with the 2012 Silver Dollar
Speedway championship and a Gold Cup preliminary win among them. All
told, Becker has put 10 wins in the win column this season across
Midgets, 360s, and 410s.
2012 NASCAR K&N
Pro Series, East champion Kyle Larson has been a busy driver racing
across the country. A rough Trophy Cup for Larson dropped him to fourth
in the Power Poll despite seven wins this year in his 21 California
starts.
Rounding out the
top-five is 2012 USAC West Coast 360 champion Bud Kaeding. Kaeding won
both Trophy Cup wingless features ahead of ninth place ranking Ryan
Bernal. Bernal won the Trophy Cup wingless championship but had a rough
showing at the Oval Nationals bump him down the list.
Trophy Cup Friday
night feature winner Rico Abreu, who came within half of a lap of
winning the Calistoga event as well, narrowly missed the cut for making
our top-ten on this go around. Abreu ranked 11th with the media and
13th in the statistical standings. An honorary mention on this edition
of the Power Poll goes to the late Tyler Wolf. We would like to send
our thoughts and prayers to Tyler's family and friends after his fatal
crash at Calistoga Speedway two weeks ago.
One race remains on
the California Sprint & Midget schedule, the Turkey Night Grand Prix
on dirt at Perris Auto Speedway. The race pays USAC National and
Western Midget points and poll regulars Kyle Larson, Ryan Bernal, Rico
Abreu, and Shane Golobic are expected to compete.
