First off I would like to say what a great race the oval nationals were. But I am a bit confused with how they disperse hard charger money. As far as I saw it there was only one hard charger all weekend. He started in the middle or back in most of his races and by FAR passed the most cars. I am sure the Tony Jones hard charger plaque will look great on his wall, but if any driver deserved some hard charger money it was Robert Ballou. He did the most with the smallest budget and had us on our feet the whole A main Saturday night. Although it was pretty awesome up front also. But in the winner circle interview, when they called Robert up for the Tony Jones award, at the same time John Jory said he was adding $2500.00 to that award or at least that was how it sounded to alot of people including myself. Who got that money. I was told it went to Mike Spencer. Let me see, started on pole, fell back to 4th and won. Hmmmm, passed four cars. Ballou started 24th and finished 8th. If my math is correct, that is 16 cars. Not to mention starting 6th in his B and finished 2nd. Nothing against Spencer, he drove his ass off to win, but come on, that is not right. If Wags only gives money for CRA drivers, something should have been put up for the real hard charger. Ballou made alot of fans this weekend, including me for life. Props to you Robert Ballou!

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong. As far as I know there in no cash or points awarded for 'Hard Charger'. Quite often a group or individual will offer a prize. Ken "Wags" Wagner & Steve Lafond gave an award to Rickie Gaunt. Rickie Gaunt gets CRA Wagtimes/Lafond Hard Charger $1000 jar of change and a bottle of Crown Royal from the Wagtimes people. (from Wags website)

The "Tony Jones" Hard Charger award for the Oval Nationals finally is a plaque (no cash) that was awarded to Robert Ballou.

The $2500 dollar check awarded to Mike Spencer was a bonus the John Jory Corp. added to the $10,000 first place winners prize.

Jack's money, as announced all weekend, was going to the winner to bring the winner's share to $12,500.00. That is where he wanted it to go.

It was just said at the same time as the hard charger award was given so it might have been mistaken as going to Robert. I realize the hard charger award is given , if any money, by someone, just thought , if any was to be given, he deserved it. That's all

I know that Robert recieved a lot of help for charging out here from Indy with a open trailer from race fans and a few sponcors, and for making a trip like that he's recieved something in return that's probably even more important to him than any award.

Half the lies they tell about me aren't true.
