I have never ordered a Pay Per View event before. I have DirectTV, Do I order it from the Short Track Nationals link at the top of the forum or can I order it directly from DirectTV??

You order it through the link on top and watch it on your computer. If you are able to hook up the computer to your TV screen, then you can watch it that way. The video will still be coming through your computer and internet connection.

I would be best to make sure you have a fast enough internet connection first, visit www.speedtest.net and run the test. The company putting on the PPV should tell you what the required minimum speed is before they take your money.

Okay thanks Speed. I thought it was on television PPV!! I doubt my computer is good enough to receive it dang it!! It struggled a few times this summer with the Knoxville events with Media2 productions. Bummer, I was looking forward to seeing them.

It's internet connection speed, not processor or OS speed. The best I can get through Century Link in my neighbhood is 1.3 mb/s (that rates F+ on the speednet website) so I can't enjoy Knoxville or the STN's either.

Actually as long as you are getting 1mb/s or better on the speed test, you will be able to watch the pay-per-view just fine.

M. Rigsby of Dirt On Dirt took the time to return my phone call today, promptly and courteously. Answered all my questions about connection concerns......(I cannot spell dot com).....and I am ready for three nights.....I too hope this PPV gets lots of takers.....great opportunity for those who unfortunately cannot make it....attended the last six years, but circumstances this year preclude attendance....thanks Dirt On Dirt and STN

Thanks for your support. We've been doing PPV's for Super Late Model events from Wisconsin and Arizona for a few years now and the feedback has been great. They've grown every year. Rigsby and I are real good friends and have been working together on various projects for several years now. I've been bugging him for a few years to come and give a ppv a shot at the Short Track Nationals and finally was able to talk him into back during Speedweeks in Florida earlier this year. I'm one of those guys that loves Sprint Cars and Late Models (gasp!), and I think that it's awesome that one of the best events in the nation will be made available to the world.

We hope to see as many people as possible there in the stands with us all weekend, but if you can't make it to Hammerhill at least you can still feel like you are almost there. Multiple announcers, multiple cameras, instant replay, pre & post race shows. This is the real deal.

If your recomended minimum speed is 1.0 mb/s, I will give it a shot on the first night. Turn2Media's Knoxville webcast is great, but it needs a minimum of 1.5 mb/s and even then it is rather choppy on my old PC.

Thanks for the info. (if these spec's were posted before I had to put in my email, I would have considered it sooner)

Definitely give it a shot on Thursday. Strange that you have issues if you are getting 1.3mb/s....makes me wonder if maybe your signal fluctuates, and isn't always over 1mb. 1.3mb/s should be plenty to cover what Turn2 does at Knoxville. Strange. Thanks again for your interest.

Where in the **** did Hammer Hill - and all of those other cutsy names come from? I've been going to I-30 longer than I want to admit (the '70's) and I've never heard of "Hammer Hill" until the racing boys this year. I don't care what you call it - it's still one of the best 1/4 mile dirt tracks that I have been to. I won't list the others. I'm not ready for other nick names.

Paintboss,

Can you access the regular internet through your PS3? If so, go to the same www.speedtest.net and run the test through the PS3. According to Ben Shelton, you only need a download speed of 1.0 mb/sec (it's the number that pops up after the PING...indicated on the graphic speedometer while the test is going on)

Do they stream any of these races through the Wii game console or is it strictly PC only? Not too crazy about sitting in the office to watch television on a computer. wink

Whether you are browsing the net via your computer, your PS3, or your Wii as long as you have internet access you should be able to watch the pay-per-view. I browse the internet from time-to-time on my PS3 and have full functionality similar to using my pc or laptop. Long story short...as long as you have an internet connection it shouldn't matter what device you are using to surf the web.

Most laptops and pc's have a line out to connect them to your television now as well. We've had a lot of viewers do that as well over the past few years to watch our Dirt Late Model events on their tv.

Thanks for the interest!
Ben

I can browse the web but most sites aren't setup to stream on the Wii. The Wii runs out of memory and I get an error message with most sites. Maybe the PS3 and others have more cache memory. Wouldn't want to take the risk of paying without first being able to test the quality on my setup. More streaming sites will not work on the Wii over their browser than the ones that will.
