I sure enjoyed this past weekend races at Hanford. The promoter (Scott Woodhouse) sure knows how to put on a race. Great car turnout, great track prep and racing. Everyone I came into contact (either by phone or at the actual race track) were very nice and informative if I had any questions.
And even when things did not go smoothly on Saturday Night (the damaged fence) the promoter never lost his cool and offered half off beer. Quick thinking on his feet. I was surprised how quickly the fence was prepared, I was expecting at least an hour or two to get it fixed.
Also cool to see the promoter's affection and to show his appreciation for a friend of the track who is battling health issues, class act.
I'm pretty sure I will have a similar experience this weekend at Tulare. It's nice to know some promoters work there butts off to present some great racing. (Chris Kearns also did a great job at Santa Maria this year and I especially liked the Billet cup, unfortunately there was not a huge car turnout or crowd, but it was very well run and probably one of the best races of the year I have seen).
I always enjoy coming out to the old time tracks and fairgrounds, the facility always has character in a good way.
For the most part, it seems Sprint Car racing is on the upswing these days with the promoters and sanctioning bodies doing whatever they can even in a bad economy.
If you guys have not had enough racing for the year after the Trophy Cup, come on down to PAS (perris) for some great non-wing racing with Oval Nationals and Turkey Night. Canyon Speedway in AZ also has some good races coming up too, both non-wing USAC National sprints, midgets, and ASCS winged cars too.
Good time of year if you are a sprint car fan on the west coast
