FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

2012 OCEAN SPRINTS TITLE TO BE WRAPPED UP BY GOLOBIC ON FRIDAY

WATSONVILLE, CALIFORNIA (October 9, 2012) - 21 year-old San Jose State engineering student Shane Golobic of Fremont will only need to start his heat race in Friday night's Ocean Sprints presented by Taco Bravo finale to be named champion for 2012. The driver of the Get Som Sports #9j entry is coming off the heels of his lone win of the campaign in a dominating performance last Friday night.

This season has seen a smooth and steady one for Golobic, finishing outside of the top-four only once. Golobic will win the championship over Brad Furr of Stockton, who has nearly matched Golobic in consistency throughout the 15 race season at John Prentice's Ocean Speedway Watsonville.

After entertaining a 30 car turnout last Friday night, the Ocean Sprints competitors are bearing down for another batch of West Coast 360 talent to hit the quarter-mile clay.

Headlining the all-star affair on Friday night will be 2012 Gold Cup Race of Champions winner Kyle Larson. The Earnhardt-Ganassi development driver, who also leads the NASCAR K&N Pro Series, East points, will drive a Finley Farms #77 entry before heading to Hanford on Saturday for a King of the West appearance.

Six-time feature winner Tommy Tarlton, the 2012 Johnny Key Classic champion, will give it one more try on Friday night to tie Brent Kaeding's record of seven wins in a single Ocean Sprints season. Despite a limited schedule, Tarlton has managed to work his way into the fifth position in the standings.

As of press-time, Visalia's Steven Tiner is expected to return to Ocean Speedway after a hard crash in last Friday's contest. 2012 Civil War Sprints champion Andy Forsberg of Auburn is also expected to appear as he continues his stellar season.

A trio of Central Valley rookie teenagers including DJ Netto of Hanford, Dominic Scelzi of Fresno, and Carson Macedo of Lemoore ran in the top-ten last week and are threats to challenge for the race win again on this go around.

Gilroy's Kurt Nelson and San Jose's Ryan Rusconi will wrap up their battle for third in series points on Friday night as well, with Nelson leading Rusconi by 34 points. Other series regulars include Corralitos' Jerry Bonnema, Salinas' Carter Train, San Martin's Craig Smith, San Jose's Wayne Katen, Salinas' Jeremy and Jason Chisum, San Jose's Michael Twitchell, and Petaluma's Jason Toft.

Friday's races for the Ocean Sprints also includes Wingless Sprints, Micro 600s, IMCA Sport Mods, and Four Bangers. Adult tickets are just $17 with seniors 65+ $15 and kids ages 6-12 are $13. The family pass for two adults and two children is value priced at just $55. Qualifying will get underway at 6 p.m. with fan gates opening at 4:30 p.m.
