How is the racing surface at Ventura after the fair. I know there were some complaints about it and the last race I went to, The All Coast Construction was the worst I have seen Ventura, it took rubber and for the most part was single file. I heard murmurs Ventura Raceway was looking for new clay.
Anyone been to Ventura since the fair, how was the racing surface?
It's been warm for awhile now, was thinking of trying Ventura again to cool off, but reluctant for many reasons.
Thanks

For the midgets it really has been about perfect. The track has been getting grippier with the addition of the chemicals that they are adding. Granted, the grip level is still pretty low, but the racing has been pretty darn good with multiple grooves. What has really helped us is the fact that we haven't been running with the sprint cars this season!

I was at the last All Coast Challenge also. No doubt new clay is needed however that track could have easily been saved had they worked it. It was junk in the heats and they never touched it. It will be a LONG time before I'm inclined to go back.

Surface is pretty much the same. Unless they trucked out the previous clay, its still there. Just have to scrape the stuff off the top of it.

Was there on 9-8-12. 20 cars, damn good show. If you want to know what a driver thought of the racing surface, listen to the winner Clark Templeman III on this video. Will be there this Sat. Sprint cars, pretty girls Brudder Brett, popcorn, whats not to like. OK Don, I know you will find something not to like.

We agree with Mitch, it has been getting better every week for the midgets. Multi grooves and very racey. At the end of the night last week it still had moisture, no dust. Granted it was a cooler night also but they have been working on it to make it better.

Track Surface -
- Sprintcars - Very Smooth but NO Grip, if you're lucky enough to pull a first heat pick you may have a good track for the first 5 laps, after that the track will continute to errode and break down until it becomes nothing but dust and sand, all the water truck passes in the world cannot turn sandy DG into clay and provide any grip. And now the Rocks are beginng to re-emerge on the surface.
- Midgets - with car counts typically in the 8-12 range, the track stays somewhat OK but still not the grip of a 5 year old sneaker.
Promotor is too concerned with getting back gate $, so you'll have to sit through 8 different classes. Track officiating is at a grammer school level, truly sad to see.
Prediction 2013 - More Motorcycle, Hobby Stock, Go-Cart, Kid events that bring in the back gate cash and don;t require any purse payouts, Sprints can go find somewhere else to run and with CK from Sanat Maria heading to USAC we can all but kiss Santa Maria goodbye as well.

I was there for 2 other races before the All Coast race I was crying about. Both for midget shows. The track was junk in all the prelims, but worked over before the mains. All of the features were outstanding.
