Streeter closing in on point lead in Chico/P'ville wingless standings as big stretch of races looms ahead

By Gary Thomas

June 27, 2007...Lathrop’s Matt Streeter has closen in on the point lead in the John Padjen Motorsports wingless spec sprint points standings following a third place finish this past Friday night in Chico. Matt and the Orth Family Racing team have been very strong recently and Friday night’s run at Silver Dollar Speedway helped make up a lot of ground in the standings.

The evening began with Matt starting from the pole in the night’s opening heat race. He jumped into the lead at the waving of the green flag and had no worries as he brought home the win aboard the T & T Trucking Inc, A.R.T. Enterprise, M & S Racing Engines No. 24.

The 25 lap main event saw him start from the second row. The Silver Dollar Speedway surface became very slick and dry during the feature which made for very challenging conditions. Matt moved up to second early on and set his sights on leader Taylor Simas. Matt was patient and sat behind Simas waiting for him to make a mistake, because with nothing left on the track, it made passing nearly impossible. With less than five laps to go Matt tried to get around Simas on the high side, but there wasn’t anything up there and he lost a spot in doing so. At the checkered flag Matt brought the Orth Family Racing, M & S Racing Engines, Vaughn & Family No. 24 home in third place.

It was solid night of action and hopefully we can continue these strong runs and the championship will play itself out. We are pleased to welcome a new sponsor to the team as well. Elkhorn Station Roadside Bar & Grill is coming aboard to help out with the long stretch of races coming up.

This past Saturday night also saw Matt run at the Placerville Speedway in the Matt Streeter Racing Inc. No. 14jr midget during the Civil War/BCRA Midget double header. Matt started sixth in his heat and was coming quickly but ran out of time and settled for a second place finish. It set him up for a 10th place starting spot in the feature and Matt was on the hammer. Matt was up to the top five when contact sent him into the wall and upside down. Unfortunately the midget was destroyed and it put an end to the night.

We have to thank all our sponsors who make everything possible. Featured sponsors for the Matt Streeter Inc. team include: Delta Demolition of Brentwood, T & T Trucking Inc. of Lodi, 4 M's construction of Tracy, 4 M’s ConstructionF & V Podesta Farms of Linden, Eloy Coyote Racing of Morada, Troys Body & Paint of Tracy and Brian & Hiedi Investments. Product sponsors include: ART Enterprises, DMI Race Components, Kiezer Wheels, Advance Race Shocks, Hoosier Tires, Van Dyne Engineering, Sunco Race Fuels, Kirkley Race Seats and Paris Printing.

Next up for Matt Streeter will be this Friday night at Silver Dollar Speedway as he sits behind the wheel of the Orth Family Racing machine looking to cut into the point lead. Matt currently sits third in the JPM point standings, just one point back of second place and five back of leader Brandon Davis. On Saturday Matt & Orth Family Racing will be in action at the Placerville Speedway bullring for another JPM wingless spec sprint point race. The next week will be a tough stretch as starting on Friday it will be five races in eight days, split between Chico and Placerville. It will be a crucial to run well because it will have a large determining factor on who takes home the championship at the end of the year. Hopefully some luck will come our way and Matt can put the orange 24 in victory lane during the week.
