I had the fish & chips and it was good. Didn't care for the fries, though. Just me. I prefer the thinner ones. I got a couple meat pies for the Aussies staying with me and they thought they were real good. The gal there told me they are flown in fresh each day and picked up at the DM airport.
My wife told me if I went to one more Sprint Car race
she would leave me.................I'm sure gonna miss
that ol' gal.

I think Down Under and Monarchs in Pella were a tie for the best places I ate at during the Nationals both exceptional food!

From an Aussie who brought 17 other Australians on tour to Knoxville this year, I can report that they frequented the Downunder Grille virtually every day.
The "Everything burger" which really should be called a "burger with the lot" was outstanding. Lettuce, tomato, beet root, cheese, carmelised onions, fried egg, pineapple and of course the meat, was sensational.
Then there were the meat pies. Having lived on the road for the previous 25 days, our lads were ready for their share of a "pie and sauce". Barry Lewis had 3,000 (frozen) "Four and Twenty" brand pies flown from Melbourne to Knoxville with the added help of a freight controller in Denver who just happened to be a Sprintcar fan. He sorted out the delay very quickly.
They were pretty much perfect based on the dozens consumed by the boys from Global Speedway Tours!!
A meat pie shouldn't be microwaved however. But Richard and the team at Downunder "followed our instructions" after day 1 and we ate them straight from the pie warmer. Just beautiful. Try one when next you are in Knoxville. There are still quite a few left!!
The batter on the fish was made and mixed on the premises each day and every order was individually fried. Just one thing however .... The best fries (chips) in the USA by far are at Burger King. If Barry and AJ can replicate them, then fast food perfection will be found adjacent to Dingus.

When Burger King, or Burger Prince as I like to call them, first opened in my home town, I went in there twice and got their Wopper, fries and a soda. I also got the Montezuma’s Revenge, both times. I haven’t been back, and it’s been 40 years.

Reasonable prices too... Will Prolly hit it again when we go up for Season Championship. My daughter, son in law & I had the "Everything" Burger & Chili Fries on Saturday of the 360 Nationals at around 2:00 pm, "Smoked our Arses big time!!!" We drug our pot bellied bodies back to the campers, fell asleep and didn't wake up till 7:00pm! Almost missed the races.. lol
