FOURTH APPEARANCE OF USAC SPRINTS AT
OCEAN SPEEDWAY THIS FRIDAY NIGHT
WATSONVILLE,
CALIFORNIA (August 8, 2012) – This Friday night marks the fourth and final appearance in 2012 for
wingless injected USAC Sprint Cars at John Prentice's Ocean Speedway, with the
USAC/CRA and USAC Western Classic Sprints
going head-to-head for $2,500 to win.
Ocean
Speedway area drivers Ryan Bernal of Hollister and Brent Kaeding have picked up
wins in two of the three races held so far with the June event going to USAC/CRA points leader Mike Spencer. Spencer, from Temecula, is one of the top
sprint car drivers in California and ranked #1 in the California
Sprint & Midget Power Poll on StevenBlakesley.com
Friday's
races kick off a four races in two weeks stretch for Spencer as he tries for a
record-shattering fifth straight USAC/CRA title. A big run at Ocean Speedway could pay
dividends in propelling Spencer to the championship.
Fremont's Shane Golobic leads the Ocean
Sprints presented by Taco Bravo points on Friday nights at Ocean, but will
climb aboard Keith and Josh Ford's USAC/CRA 410 Sprint Car to challenge USAC's
best. Golobic recently finished second
at Hanford in a USAC West Coast 360 race to
get himself ready for this Friday's races.
Another
driver to watch from the USAC/CRA contingent is "The Kruser" Cory Kruseman,
who has wins in 2011 and 2010 at Ocean Speedway to add to his long list Sprint
Car accomplishments. Huntington Beach's Nic Faas, Yorba Linda's Austin Williams and Matt
Mitchell, Brody Roa, and "Cadillac" Cody Williams are all expected to
race on Friday.
The USAC
Western Classic Sprints are currently led by Fair Oaks' Shauna Hogg ahead of eight-time
USAC pavement champion Tony Hunt of Lincoln, CA. Other series regulars include Winton's Gordon Rogers, Santa Rosa's Marty Hawkins, Carmichael's Tom Baker, and Paradise's Taylor Simas.
Last
weekend the USAC Western Classic Sprints raced at Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico and Placerville Speedway with both
feature wins going to Sacramento's Kyle Hirst in the Ken Pierson /
Dave Vertullo #14 entry. Hirst and
Bernal traded blows numerous times in the first USAC appearance at Ocean Speedway
on April 20 and could duplicate that again on Friday.
USAC will
award a bonuses of $500, $300, and $200 to the top-three USAC Western Classic
Racing Series finishers in Friday's event. $200 will be awarded to the highest USAC West Coast 360 entrant in the
race as well. These bonuses are in
addition to the $2,500 to win, $300 to start purse.
Friday's
racing activities featuring the USAC/CRA and Western Classic Sprints will
also include American Stocks, Wingless Sprints, Sport Mods, and Micro 600s. Adult tickets are $20 with seniors 65+ $18
and kids ages 6-12 are $15. Qualifying
will get underway at approximately 6 p.m. with fan gates opening at 4:30
