TARLTON WINS THIRD STRAIGHT OCEAN RACE, FORSBERG RACES INTO KEY

WATSONVILLE, CALIFORNIA (July 30, 2012) – Tommy Tarlton in the Tarlton & Son #21 continued his dominance over the Ocean Sprints Sprints presented by Taco Bravo by winning his third straight Johnny Key Classic qualifier at Ocean Speedway Watsonville on Friday night. Tarlton's win also meant that second place finisher Andy Forsberg of Auburn, CA is locked into the Johnny Key as well.

Tarlton carries a huge head of steam into the 52nd Johnny Key Classic on Saturday August 25, which will pay $10,000 to win courtesy of DDNi. Joining Tarlton and Forsberg so far is San Jose's Nick Green. The top-two in Ocean Sprints points not locked in, and the highest finishing non-qualified car on August 17, will also join the list of qualifiers as we count down to the Key.

"Paul always gives me a good car," Tarlton said. "It's a big couple of weeks coming up here for us and our team.Watsonville is a blast and definitely a lot of fun. To get three in a row here is unbelievable!"

Friday's feature was led to green by Forsberg, a multi-time Silver Dollar Speedway and Placerville Speedway champion. Forsberg led the way through a series of red flags and caution flags in the first five laps. Australia's Josh Ruhs and Salinas' Carter Train flipped on lap three and collected young Carson Macedo to end all three of their nights. On the following restart, fast-time qualifier Justin Sanders, now living in Watsonville, had a big flip in Orval Burke's OB1 entry.

Tim Decarlo, Jr. was also victim of a flip on the next attempt for a restart. After things settled down, the race went green on lap five with Forsberg in the lead while Tarlton found himself mired in seventh.

Stockton's Brad Furr briefly took second from Green on the restart but Tarlton was the car with the biggest head of steam. Tarlton made his way into the top-five past Jason Statler on lap 10 and took over second on lap 16.Furr followed Tarlton past Green as well.

Furr passed Tarlton for second on lap 19, but Tarlton came back at him on lap 22 to go after race leader Forsberg in lapped traffic. Tarlton made a big statement by reeling in Forsberg and sweeping past him on lap 27 to take the lead.

Tarlton led the final three laps for his fifth win at Ocean Speedway in 2012 ahead of Forsberg, second place in points Brad Furr, points leader Shane Golobic of Fremont, and Statler. Only seven of the 21 starters finished on the lead lap in a torrid 25 lap green flag run.

Heat race wins went to Forsberg, Lance Norick of Arizona, and Green. The DDNi Hard Charger for the evening was Burt Foland, Jr. Sanders won his second straight the Ray Scheidt's Electric fast-time award with an 11.453 second lap.

"I might have gone into a little bit of cruise control in the last few laps but I guess I should have done a better job of looking at the scoreboard," Forsberg said."I'm out of my element here and inexperience bit us.Tommy's pretty tough down here and we're satisfied!"

The Ocean Sprints presented by Taco Bravo will break until the final Johnny Key Classic qualifier on Friday August 17th.

just a note

the DDNi hard charger was Burt Foland JR

not Jeremy Chisum. Jeremy had a good run, but Burt was a little better.

don't blame blakesley, i didn't get him the info.

don't worry we got it correct at the track and didn't tell the wrong guy he won.

i hate when i do that and have to talk my way around it! lol.

to indy and beyond!!
