107 degrees, no problem bring in the Power I Midgets on the high banks of U S 36 Raceway to beat the heat.

Again Mike Franks owner of U S 36 Raceway crafts a great race track for the Power I Midgets to race on Sunday night before a smaller than deserved crowd for the type of racing the racers put on for them.

Thru the heat races and the A-Main the Power I guy's showed what midget racing is and how exciting it can be. These races reminded me of the racing you used to see at the high banks of Belleville, some times 3 or 4 wide with racing for all position on the track.

Once again 36 raceway hosts one of the best races of 2012, you watch the video, tell me if I am wrong. Enjoy.

On the quality of racing - no you're not wrong.

But unless there is another crowd (maybe a few of them) watching from undisclosed locations - promoter lost his butt on that one. And THAT sucks. No one's fault really - but still sucks.

107 degree weather on a sunday night will keep most away, but depending on the size of the purse of that A Main - 21 entries is a very low number. But - it's freakin hot, sunday night, middle of the year, etc etc etc. It's no ones fault - just wish that video revealed a packed house in pits and stands and know that the promoter would not just be inclined, but be chomping at the bit to do it again.

Who knows - maybe he will. But if he didn't.....couldn't blame him.

What a victory for the track though! that track set up great in such sorry abysmal, infernal weather. Same conditions all over the central plains - and most tracks handle it disastrously. Huge nod to US 36 track prep.
And a nod to POWRi too (although they need to bring more cars). I love this series. Checked out their season and website last night - they usually have high car counts, great racing and some pretty good coverage too - all three being attributes that the sport is severely short on down around here (central/southern plains).

But thanks for posting this - and thanks to the KCCheese folks gettin the coverage and some pre-A Main interviews. pretty cool.

One thing that was missed/skipped over - was Abreu ok??? Saw flames as he dove off turn 3 - then you hear it go from a yellow to a red. Is he ok??

Same thing happened down here when POWRi came to Cowtown for the first race of the season. Great turn out of cars, just a shitty crowd turn out.

It was a fantastic evening, but the crowd did seem to be less than the ASCS Midwest/Warrior region races from earlier in the year. Rico and Larson put on an amazing show in their heats (both coming from the last starting spot to win) and the feature were they were racing each other in every corner, switching lines and trying to figure out the best way to get by a teammate with the same equipment. Rico was ok after his motor gave out (he's actually in one of the victory lane photos with Larson), the red was just to get the safety crew out to him.

Overall, it was a damn good evening.

Also I'm glad the track was as good as it was and that the entry to turn one was smooth. At the last ASCS Midwest/Warrior show there was a HUGE rut in the entry to turn one that forced everyone to take the low line unless they wanted to destroy their car. So I'm glad the midgets were able to take any line they wanted to.

He will be at the 360 Nationals unless rain interferes, then his plans could change.

The crowd was pretty similar to last years race. Not sure if it's the heat, Sunday night, or if it's just winged sprint fan territory, but if you didn't go you missed out on some pretty good racing and the chance to see a rising star in racing. Those midgets are definitely fun to watch. I was a bit disappointed with the non wing turnout, although I understand it's their first year out. Hopefully the WAR series gains some traction and we can see some bigger car turnouts in the future. Great work as usual from the KC Cheese crew!
