Folks... time to be as candid as possible. If you live anywhere within a reasonable drive of Peoria, Illinois and consider yourself a sprint car fan, you need to be at Peoria Speedway this Thursday. MOWA will be making a stop at Peoria Speedway as a part of our Sprint Week. Of course we need fans at every one of our events, but the Peoria event requires a little extra attention.

Over the past 3-4 open wheel shows of any sort at Peoria (MOWA, Sprint Invaders, POWRi), crowds have been lackluster. So far this year, MOWA has had outstanding crowds at all of our venues. We expect our Sprint Week crowds to continue that trend as we go to Highland, Illinois, Jacksonville and Macon Speedway. Peoria, on the other hand, is one place where we need to go the extra mile to ensure that open wheel cars maintain a presence and bring the fans out to support the open wheel shows..

Sprint cars need to be in Peoria, Illinois. It's the third largest metropolitan area in Illinois and has over 350,000 people in the metro area. If you fold a map of Illinois in half, there are only 3 sprint car races scheduled anywhere in the northern half of the State this year: Sprint Invaders at Peoria (already held), MOWA at Peoria (Thursday night), and the IRA show at LaSalle in August (great event)!

You can go slightly North and the IRA show at LaSalle has huge crowds, go to the West and Burlington has no problem with fans for MOWA and Sprint Invaders. Go Southeast to Lincoln and MOWA can almost sell that place out. A little more directly South to Jacksonville and Sprint Cars thrive.

Since we pretty much have to run Peoria on a weeknight to not interfere with their weekly show, we have given it the added crutch of making it a part of our Sprint week. No other Sprint Week show is within 90 miles of Peoria, and none further north than a line through Jacksonville and Macon (I-72). We have kept the ticket price down to $15, hoping that this helps the gate whereas the ticket for this same sprint week night at Spoon River was $18 last year.

In addition to an incredibly tight points battle between our MOWA regulars, expect some travelers such as Danny Smith and Brian Brown to make a visit to Peoria this Thursday. The track has a 10pm curfew and only 2 support classes are scheduled. Even with what we expect to be more than 30 sprint cars, you can drive an hour or two and still get to bed at a decent time.

We know there are sprint car fans in Illinois North of Lincoln. Now is the time to show it. Otherwise you might be here on Hoseheads asking why there aren't open wheel cars of any type in Peoria next year. If you are a sprint car fan, do yourself and the entire sport a favor this Thursday night.... go to a sprint car race. You will enjoy it.

I hear you, I wish I understood why the Peoria area doesn't seem to support sprints at this track. Has there been any advertisement for the race, if so I haven't heard it on the radio. Fans normally pack the place for any type of late model or modified special. These classes are like watching paint dry compared to sprints. You can count on me being there Thursday and I'm trying to get some coworkers to come along. It should be some great short track action.

Calling all eastern iowa and west central illinois sprint car fans. MOWA 410 sprint cars will be at Peoria this Thursday night. $15 admission price is a bargin and we want to fill the stands. MOWA has raced before SOLD OUT grandstands several times this year and we want to add Peoria to our list. I realize it is a mid week show, but it is part of Illinois Speedweek 2012 and should be an awesome show. We will do everything we can to run the show quickly, so you can get home and go to bed for work on Friday.

Any team owners or fans that have question, feel free to call me at (319) 430-0484.

Hope to see all the sprint car fans from the Peoria area. Also come on Burlington, Iowa fans help us pack the stands at Peoria. If you have never been to Peoria it is worth the trip.

Saw on Brian Borwn's website that he plans to race at Highland, Illinois during the Illinois Sprint Week. Also I am thinking we might see Danny Smith.

Peoria Speedway is an awesome place, and I have yet to see a bad Sprint Car show there.

Hi Jim...You missed a great show at Wilmot. Track was it's best in 5 years. Good luck in the coming days if you and Destini are running.
