Can someone tell me why they are running legends cars at knoxville during the Knoxville National???? Why would anyone care to see anything but sprint cars that week? And it also seems like they keep it on the down low.

You must not be a beer drinker or you would be so busy running the bathroom and grabbing a few more cold ones that you wouldn't even notice the support class. My advice, drink more!!!
But seriously, promoters like support classes that have a cheap purse, don't have the wrecks that slow down the show and draw a good count at the pit gate. If I was a promoter I'd like that. Is there television this year? Another Sprint class like 305's or 360's would probably have some wrecks to clean up and that's not a good fit for a broadcast. Legends are probably local and bring three or four crewmen so that's more jingle. It's just filler anyways so I don't see an issue with them.

I think the Clydesdales should have took a dump on that clown, or the very least run him over. In all seriousness there can be quite a bit of downtime during a Nationals program, so a bunch of mini putt putts racing for a few laps is fine by me.

Sounds like our group might be in the minority. We all laughed like hell and got a kick out of pork chop. I guess you had to have a sense of humor and were to the point that it took very little to amuse you. I would rather laugh at him than to try to laugh at the little cars. They were not amusing at all.
My wife told me if I went to one more Sprint Car race
she would leave me.................I'm sure gonna miss
that ol' gal.

What's the big deal? I've seem some good racing from Legends, and I've also seen a barrel roll that took 45 minutes to extricate the driver. I agree that Knoxville is too big a track for them, but heck, I'll go down for a hamburger, beverage and cigarette while they're on the track if I don't want to watch.
I didn't realize that they were a fund raising event and good for them for that.
Second the comments on the clown and the Clydesdales. I bet they lost a few concession sales while they were on the track, though.

If I could afford to attend the Knoxville Nationals I'd be so happy that I'd give every one of those Legends cars a big hug. I'm having a hard time wrapping my mind around why anybody would have a problem with this.

A few years back the had AMA dirt track motorcycles put on a display for the fans. I remember they scooted around the big half mile pretty good.

Nevermind clowns, horses, and putt putts, I enjoy checking out some of the beautiful ladies in attendance in between races. Less than 3 weeks to go.

To raise $$ for a good cause and to fill in dead time. They only race during a time when ZERO is going on.
For those people that require constant action, this fills that void, otherwise they say it was boring and don't return (the younger generation has a very short attention span, you can't afford downtime IMO)
The 2 seater is the same way, just fills in dead time and raises $$ for a good cause.
I wish they'd bring back the Flat Track Motorcycles for an exhibition again, those guys are crazy and their race @ Knoxville last year was awesome.

I never thought I would like the cycles. At the motorcycle event later in year I watched tapes of races. All I can say is WOW. Talk about running close, drivers actualy were running side by side in corners just 6 inches apart, I think drivers actually touched each other. Also got to see a girl win the first feature ever. You might be able to see the videos from Knoxville, I assume you can go back that far.

A majority of the Legends come from quite a long distance away (as I recall, over 1/2 of them were from North Carolina). There is no race purse at all as I recall, a $10,000 check is presented to the winner for the fund for families of fallen police officers.
Again, it's for a worthy charity and just fills in dead time when there would be ZERO action on the track. The only thing I wish they'd do is actually announce the race and let everyone in the stands know why they are in attendance and what they are raising $$ for (the first year they didn't even talk about them, they just lined up and raced).

Legend, micro sprint, cage karts, mod lite, and mini sprints are some of the fastest growing forms of motor sports at an entry level.Knoxville is too large ,but put them on a track like Boone or Marshaltown and they are as fast or faster than late models, modified and possibly 305 sprints.Legend cars raced for a million one time and now it has been lowered to $100.000.The one thing they do have is strict engine rules.I have been involved with racing for many years as driver, owner, and fan and love any type of open wheel racing.Put Sammy,Steve,Tony,Dude ,Jac, or any driver with some name recognition in any of those type of cars and I will bet you would watch and enjoy as racing is racing.Look at what the Chili bowl is with racing probably less than 80MPH.Look at what Terry did with a foot race at Osky so its not all about cubic inches and speed.
