Can someone tell me why they are running legends cars at knoxville during the Knoxville National???? Why would anyone care to see anything but sprint cars that week? And it also seems like they keep it on the down low.

They ran them last year as well, but I agree with you.

I enjoy watching them. They help fill the downtime. If you don't like it, then go take a walk or something.

OK, which is worse. Legends cars or the two seater?
Both suck whales!

To raise $$ for a good cause and to fill in dead time. They only race during a time when ZERO is going on.
For those people that require constant action, this fills that void, otherwise they say it was boring and don't return (the younger generation has a very short attention span, you can't afford downtime IMO)
The 2 seater is the same way, just fills in dead time and raises $$ for a good cause.
I wish they'd bring back the Flat Track Motorcycles for an exhibition again, those guys are crazy and their race @ Knoxville last year was awesome.

I think bringing in the vintage open wheel cars (sprints, super mods and midgets) would be more interesting. Not necessarily to race but maybe run a bunch of hot laps so the fans could get a feel for the way it use to be.

I know some of the local guys around here whom go down for this race are pretty dedicated to the fund raising effort, are honored to be able to be able to have the opportunity to do this during The Nationals and get pretty emotional about the importance of their event.
I really don't mind the Legends, as they are during the normal down time. Also agree on the Flat Track bikes. Those were cool to see!
This is where I found the information after a quick search: http://iowacops.org/memorial.html
3rd Annual Fallen Officers Memorial Race
The 3rd Annual Fallen Officers Memorial Race will take place August 8th and 9th, 2012, during Knoxville Nationals in Knoxville, IA. This race features some of the best Legend Car drivers from across the country who will once again gather to race and raise funds and awareness for Concerns of Police Survivors.
This event was started in honor of officer and fellow racer, Danny Martinez who was killed in 2007. In remembrance of all the officers killed in the line of duty, each driver carries the name of a fallen police officer from their home state. This becomes a very personal connection with each racer as we represent the officer as well as the family that is a part of their lives.
We appreciate the kindness and help of all the drivers, crews, and sponsors who have taken the time to help raise funds and awareness of C.O.P. S. organization. One on one time is spent with race spectators throughout the 4 day event at the display trailer.
If you would like to learn more about our race, volunteer, or contribute to our efforts, please contact Warren Ropp at 319-430-9624.

Seems like a good cause to me. If you don't want to watch, go below the grandstands and have a drunk or two run into you.

Whew, what a worthy cause and there is enough downtime to let these guys celebrate some real heros from this world. Thanks for your efforts and I'd like to think this puts a whole new perspective into a few of the posters in this thread....

They can fill the time with Pork Chop!! That was bad ass!!
On a serious note, they had the mini sprints and legends at Beaver Dam, WI a couple of weeks back as fill in time with the outlaws. It was great for down time with my 8 year old son. Not to mention, the Legends heats and feature were some of the best racing I have seen believe it or not. I know it isn't very good at Knoxville, I will give you that. Track is too big and they get too spread out. But, at a small track they can be very entertaining. Even though I can do without them at the nationals, they do make great fill time for small kids and people with attention deficit disorder.

Oh man! That was possibly the worst thing I've ever had to endure at a race track. I still remember the entire grandstand going crazy when Doug Clark waved the black flag at the dude. One of the worst things Knoxville has ever tried.

At least we are getting some form of a race car instead of clowns and crappy comedians. Perhaps with Larry The Cable Guy's sponsorship of Terry McCarl maybe he might show up this year.

yes you sure sound like a sprint car fan. who would sell 2 tickets to nationals because he does not like 1 little event. I would say either you do not have 2 tickets or you are full of bull about going.

That is the one of the most intelligent posts I have ever seen on any blog. That clown guy was ABSOLUTELY the stupidest act I had ever witnessed ANYWHERE, not just at a race track. As far as the Legends goes ... who cares ...it is intermission and I would pay a extra never to sit thru (Speedo??) ever again.
