Anyone with some inside on this? Saw on the latest 360 nationals entry list he was listed I understand the nationwide races at 7 pm that night at Iowa speedway is that even possible to make it back in time for the A main if he were to make the Amain or maybe a alternate driver?

It's about a 30 mile drive from Newton to Knoxville the track has an airport and so does Knoxville so could possibly fly to make it an even faster trip. My guess is the two races will overlap never been to the Nationwide race at Newton so not sure how long it takes. He is probably just qualifying the car and if he drops out of the Nationwide race head to Knoxville if it's qualified in the A or B main.

He was on the radio earlier this year (KXNO 1460 out of DesMoines) and KNIA-KRLS and indicated that the plans are to race Thursday Night and do all he can to lock himself into Saturday's A-main.

Then Saturday night, the plan is to win the Nationwide race and helicoptor from the track to K'ville in time to race (he said the NASCAR media may have to come with him or drive down to K'ville to interview him, as he plans on making both races.

While on the radio station out of DesMoines he gave Knoxville and Sprint Car Racing a lot of props and coverage (he didn't even talk about Iowa Speedway or Nationwide racing that much during his 10 minute segment). Considering he was there to promote the first Nationwide race in Newton, it tells me his heart still lies with sprint cars.

this is awesome, I hope he makes it! the 2 tracks are so close to each other, some cross-promotion would really be successful IMO. maybe a silver crown race on the sunday after the nationals or something along those lines?

When they had less than 5000 in attendance for USAC Silver Crown and Midgets a couple weeks ago (on a Friday Night) with IndyCar qualifying heat races beforehand and pathetic car counts (16 midgets and 15 Silver Crown), I doubt that IA Speedway will open the gates for that (too much overhead required to turn a profit).

Plus Iowa Speedway seems to have no intention of working with any local racetracks that I have seen (at least not the past couple of years), as they continue to schedule more ane more night races to compete against the local tracks on Friday and Saturday nights (IndyCar - Saturday Night, Trucks #1 - Saturday Night, Nationwide #2 - Saturday Night of 360 Nationals, ARCA - Friday Night, USAC - Friday Night, Trucks #2 - Saturday Night, ASA Late Models - Friday Night).

Also, from looks of the grandstands (I attended the USAC race) and by seeing pictures of the grandstands on TV or print) attendance has been down significantly at all races @ Iowa Speedway so far this season, I don't think they will be trying to get their fans to attend other racetracks and take away from themselves (Nationwide #1 was down from 2011, IndyCar is significantly down from 2011 and 2010, and from all indications, Truck and Nationwide #2 ticket sales are down as well...I personally know people that attended most if not all of these in the past that now attend none (due to them competing directly against Knoxville).

Before Iowa speedway was built, Iowa speedway said they would never compete against knoxville - they obviously did not hold their word. Nascar must have taught Iowa speedway how to kill local racing in Iowa. I'm glad Ricky is racing sprints at knoxville 360 nationals.
Still love husets

As Vande77 said, Ricky plans on qualifying on Thursday night and hoping to lock in. He is going to rent a helicopter and fly down after the Nationwide race on Saturday.

A lot of Iowa Speedway races at night arent exactly their fault. Example with the trucks, indycar and nationwide. They are given a date and time by the sanctioning body and its either take it or leave it. Im sure they would love nothing more than to not have to compete against an event like 360 nationals. You gotta consider that it also hurts their fan attendance too. But you arent going to pass on a marquee event like that because its a night race.

that's too bad. the 2 facilities are so close. bummer for a person like me, that happens to love multiple different forms of racing.

I didn't mean to imply all the night racing was there fault, Live TV kind of dictates the Indy, Truck and Nationwide events, just ends up hurting the fan count (at both tracks) IMO.

It was nice to hear you on the mic up @ Iowa Speedway for the USAC races last month, (and weekly @ Kville).

most all tracks are down in grandstands and racecars in pits. Nascar, Usack, Woo and Indycar are not going to tell you that. This year the temp out side is terrible. How many people want to set down in 95 to 100 degree weather? Even a case of beer will not help you thru that.

Jack's P51 Mustangs are being brought in for the evening. No worries...Ricky's a Ford guy.

Luna's Ford engine style that won 2 WoO titles and 3
Kings Royals before a weight rule against the best EVER
in their prime and now DOMINATES super dirt late model
racing is no longer allowed/wanted in a WoO sprint
car.... Was Luna a miracle worker?

Thanks Vande77, always fun to announce at Iowa Speedway and at Knoxville as well!

360 Nationals and Knoxville Nationals should be great this year. Both car counts topped 60 today on the entry list with notable drivers still yet to get their entries in. Brady Bacon is one guy that will be putting his 99 in both races this week. Track was great on Saturday night!
