Debating going up to the Midget National show at Knoxville this weekend. Anyone have any insight on what they would be expecting for car counts? I see a little over 30 on the Knoxville web site. Will Saturday be features only or a full show of heats & features? Thanks in advance..

There were 36 last year Jim... USAC sanctioned. I would expect about the same this year, give or take a couple. It's two complete shows on Friday & Saturday. No time trials, draw for heats and use passing points. I take it you've never seen the midgets run at K'ville?? If you have, there would be no debate. The midgets put on a great show no matter where they go.

I expect near 50 midgets this year (last year the other org's ran shows against it, this year they are all cooperating), plus hte IRL being in Newton gives them more eyes looking at them (for a chance to move up).
Should be an awesome 2 nights of racing.

Hey All...
High 40's if not more for car count expected. USAC, POWRi, BADGER, SMRS, ARDC, and RMMRA all co-sanctioning the event. The best Midget drivers in the country will be there.
Twenty Lap "King Doodlebug Classic" on Friday night with the 25 lap "Pepsi/Mt. Dew Knoxville Midget Nationals" on Saturday Night with 30 cars starting the feature.
Also an open practice on Thursday from 7:00 to 9:00pm
see ya there!

What are the odds on seeing a tacky track?

I'm not sure that a tacky track would be the most entertaining race for midgets in Knoxville....I'm thinking a wide slicky would be more fun.

I saw the tape of last years show and it was a tacky track with two groove's, maybe three. It was a great show and it took some big ones to really gas it up and more than one driver leaned on the cushion to hard with some wild rides resulting.
I've seen the Midgets many many times on Manzy's big 1/2 mile and for my money a tacky track is best and really separates the men from the boy's with those short wheelbase cars. If I was anywhere close I would get my butt in the car and go.
A lot of the drivers you will see ran the copper on dirt earlier this year at Manzy and it was a hell of a show!
