Danny Lasoski Repeats at Knoxville!

KNOXVILLE RACEWAY, Knoxville, IA, June 2, 2012 – Danny Lasoski inched closer to the magical 100 mark with his 98th career win at the Knoxville Raceway Saturday night. The Dover, Missouri driver made it two wins in a row aboard the Creason Pipeline Services #33. Point leader, Clint Garner, won the 360 feature, while Mike Van Haaften also made it two wins in a row in the 305 class.

Josh Schneiderman took the early lead in the 20-lap 410 feature. A Dustin Selvage spin with two laps in the books, also claimed AJ Moeller who made contact with Don Droud Jr. Everyone restarted. Schneiderman led Mark Dobmeier, Rager Phillips, Justin Henderson and Brian Brown back to green flag racing.

Dobmeier used the opportunity to shoot by Schneiderman for the lead. Dobmeier pulled away from the field, and at the halfway point, led a four car battle for second that you could throw a blanket over. Schneiderman, Henderson, Brown and Lasoski all vied for the spot.

When a ninth running Rager Phillips had issues with two laps to go, things got interesting as the field was bunched behind Dobmeier. Lasoski was up to second, ahead of Brown, Davey Heskin and Henderson. Lasoski worked by Dobmeier on lap 18, before a caution for debris was called. The last restart saw Lasoski ahead of Dobmeier, Brown, Heskin and Schneiderman. Heskin was a rocket, grabbing second by the last lap behind Lasoski.

Brown was third, ahead of Dobmeier and Schneiderman. Henderson, Bronson Maeschen, Hard Charger Jason Johnson, Ian Madsen and Terry McCarl rounded out the top ten. Selvage registered quick time of the night, and Schneiderman, Lynton Jeffrey and AJ Moeller won the heats.

"I really didn't know what to think," Lasoski said of the restart that gave him the win. This car was handling all over the place. I knew the top was good, and I didn't figure Dobmeier would leave it. We ran the top and the bottom. We really didn't know which way to go!"

Carson McCarl shot out from the pole to lead early in the 18-lap 360 feature. The race was marred by everal cautions in the first six laps, including a nasty accident that saw JD Johnson get upside down hard and land on Lee Grosz. Both drivers were uninjured.

The final caution came when Clint Garner drove under Jamie Ball, and forced him into the fence in a battle for third. Ball sustained heavy damage and went pitside, while Garner too second on the restart and took the lead for good from McCarl to complete the ninth lap. It was his 13th career 360 win at Knoxville.

"Carson did a great job, and I really want to apologize to Jamie Ball," said Garner in Victory Lane. "I didn't want to crash him or distract him in any way. I just wanted to pass him. I'd like to thank Al Parker, Midwest Excavating and Super Shox. This car has some good shocks now. We've been working at them all year."

McCarl would settle for second, ahead of Randy Martin, Jon Agan and Nate Van Haaften. Russ Hall, Matt Moro, Casey Friedrichsen, Joe Beaver and Ryan Roberts rounded out the top ten. Van Haaften registered quick time, while Tyler Groenendyk, Russ Hall and Lee Grosz won heat races.

The 305 feature was a race of attrition with just seven competitors taking the checkered flag. Matthew Stelzer led much of the way through a series of cautions. Finally, on the twelfth lap, he ran out of fuel, and Mike Van Haaften was there to take advantage. It was Van Haaften's second win in a row and third in his career at Knoxville.

"Actually, about two or three laps in, I lost my brakes," said Van Haaften. "I saw that the bottom was faster, at least for my car. I'm guessing (Stelzer) ran out of (fuel). We rolled the dice with what we were going to do with the main and it worked."

Bob Hildreth was second, ahead of Dakota Hendrickson, Hard Charger, Ben Woods and Cody Ambers. Larry Ball Jr. registered quick time, and Stelzer and Matt Stephenson won the heats.

Kings Royals before a weight rule against the best EVER
in their prime and now DOMINATES super dirt late model
racing is no longer allowed/wanted in a WoO sprint
car.... Was Luna a miracle worker?

Ever think that just maybe the Ford just isn't as good as you think it is????

TT's on that big half mile is the ultimate hp test.

In case you didn't notice that Ford was 3/10 of a second off the pace. In August that will put him 50 points in the hole 2 laps into the night.


Was 2 laps not enough time to get the Ford up to speed?

No amount of laps would have been enough last night. No disrespect for Jason, I'm sure if he had started closer to the front he may have been in contention, but there is no doubt Lasoski and Heskin were the two fastest cars in the feature, then Brown. Worth mentioning those 3 came from 9th, 10th, and 11th starting spots to take the podium. Johnson did make a solid charge to 12th which is where he would have finished. He picked off 4 on the last two restarts. Phillips and Johnson falling out ahead of him helped as well. Of course I doubt Lasoski would have caught Dobmeier without those same restarts. Sucks for Mark. Danny got him on the first one, then Brown and Heskin got him on the second one.

Good to see Heskin get through without a mechanical issue after the last two weeks. He's been FAST for at least the past four weeks. Butch says the motor is 9 years old, but I'm guessing they had it rebuilt or seriously refreshed during the winter. Either that, or the kid has been dead on with his set ups! You can't feel too bad finishing second to the Dude at Knoxville!

Butch is that 9 yr old motor a 500 it was bad fast at the end!!!!

The motor heskin had in lastnight was a brand new capetta...first brand new motor that team has ever had...

Heskin wins if it was a 25 lap race! Jason had to set up for the A with very few laps on the track and spending time fixing the car.

the last time JJR was there with his 360, his time would have been fast enough for 5th with the 410's.....

He must not have had enough time Friday night at Jackson, MN either then.................oh wait, in the 360 feature he started on the front row and wound up 4th.................hmmmmm................ wink

So what you're saying is that the track slowed down a whole bunch from the time the 360's took to the track for TT until the 410's did theirs.


On the same night the 2nd fastest 360 would have been good for 13th quick in the 410 class.



To put it in perspective that fast time in the 360 class would have been good for 24th quick in the 410's this past week and 5th quick in the 360's. Kinda slow.

They aren't allowed to run the Ford stuff that only Karl Kinser could beat. Considering all the stupid WoO rules they have to jump through, they are doing quite well with only 3 nights of practice.

oh he had more than enough time, but when a spark plug wire gets knocked off and finishs the race on 7 cylinders, i dont think 4th is too bad.

I just don't get why you think the motor regulations are so stupid, because your so-called Ford 410 motor hasn't won yet? The rules are in place for a reason, because if you don't have the motor rules then it would get that much more out of hand along side the price of the motors would go even higher. The rules are there to set a ceiling and to keep the field as close to the same as possible. All the other motors in the field are abiding by the same set of rules your complaining about. Are you really against the motor regulations or is this just how your convincing yourself that its not the motor or JJ fault that their not winning yet, its someone else's fault. Rome wasn't built in a day either, give em some time and I'm sure they'll get it dialed in.

As I said in another one of your Ford motor threads, these motors are so far from factory motors anyways I don't even understand why people get hung up on the brand. The only Ford part on that motor is the emblem on the valve cover. If you want to cheer for a real Ford or Chevy block motor go to the local track and cheer for a super or street stock with the co. brand you like, those motors have been built from real cast factory blocks and heads.

I just don't get why you think the motor regulations are so stupid, because your so-called Ford 410 motor hasn't won yet? The rules are in place for a reason, because if you don't have the motor rules then it would get that much more out of hand along side the price of the motors would go even higher. The rules are there to set a ceiling and to keep the field as close to the same as possible. All the other motors in the field are abiding by the same set of rules your complaining about. Are you really against the motor regulations or is this just how your convincing yourself that its not the motor or JJ fault that their not winning yet, its someone else's fault. Rome wasn't built in a day either, give em some time and I'm sure they'll get it dialed in.

As I said in another one of your Ford motor threads, these motors are so far from factory motors anyways I don't even understand why people get hung up on the brand. The only Ford part on that motor is the emblem on the valve cover. If you want to cheer for a real Ford or Chevy block motor go to the local track and cheer for a super or street stock with the co. brand you like, those motors have been built from real cast factory blocks and heads.



They can't run a valve configuration moms had in their Country Squire station wagons in the 1960s. The WoO rules are making it more costly not less.
