2012 Spring Sprint Nationals Open Season At Jackson Speedway After falling victim to the rains in May, the snarl of winged sprint filled the air at Jackson Speedway for the first time in 2012 Friday night. The Spring Sprint Nationals, - Double Down Showdown, featuring the Jackson Speedway Touring Sprint Series 360 sprint and the Interstate Racing Association 410 sprint brought a total of 60 cars to the historic half-mile dirt oval on the Jackson County Fairgrounds on June 1. With the JSTS 360 Sprints racing for a $5,000 to win check in the A Feature, the action rewarded a great crowd in the Double Down Showdown. An early red-flag on the opening lap of the third JSTS Heat race saw Billy Johnson of St. Peter, MN, roll off the first turn and earn a ride to Sanford Jackson Health Center to be checked over. Heat race winners for the JSTS 360 sprints were Lee Grosz of Harwood, ND, Casey Heser of Jackson, MN, Chad Meyer of Harrisburg, SD and Troy Manteufel of St. Peter, MN. In a pair of B Features, winners were Chuck Swenson of Watertown, SD and Jack Dover of Springfield, MO. Winning the JSTS Dash was Brian Brown of Grain Valley, MO. In the IRA 410 Sprint Heats, Scott Winters of Butterfield, MN, Kaley Gharst of Decatur, IL and Travis Whitney of Coon Rapids, MN took the checkers. Feature events went to Brian Brown in the JSTS 360 Sprints and Travis Whitney in the IRA 410 Sprints.
