Can not say who I heard this from because I do not know the man's name. But as you may know, 34 raceway at Burlington has been for sale for a while. I overheard last night that someone is trying to buy it ( or has, just need to make everything official) and run 410 sprints next year on Friday nights. I only post this because I hope it is true. When properly prepared it is a great track to watch sprint cars on. I do NOT claim there is any truth in this but it is what I heard. I do know the current owners were insisting than anyone who bough the track had to keep it an IMCA sanctioned track. Which may mean ( if there is any truth in it selling) that they would have to also run support classes similar to those last night. It would be great to have 2 nights of sprint car racing within easy driving distance every weekend!

I'm not one to follow these types of posts, etc... because I'm far to busy owning/promoting a race track. But once I start receiving e-mails with inquires, I usually try to clear up any rumors before it gets out of hand. Most of you know that you may e-mail 34 Raceway anytime with questions or concerns, rather than posting to get response from those who do not have accurate info... ([email protected])

It is no secret that 34 Raceway IS FOR SALE and has been for a little over a year now. We are NOT in negotiations with anyone on the purchase of 34 Raceway at this time. Unfortunately there is a local guy who continues to tell everyone that he is going to purchase the race track and run 410 sprints, etc... etc... (He started this rumor himself well over a year ago and has not persued his actions)

For series inquires... Please do not hesitate to contact me anytime regarding the purchase of 34 Raceway. We would love to discuss further. But until we sell it, we pledge to continue having great racing action each and every Saturday night plus specials!

Thank you to all who have supported us and our RACING ADDICTION for 6 seasons now. We have been very fortunate to meet so many wonderful drivers, crews, fans and sponsors! We look forward to seeing you at the track!

Thanks again!

Nobody is going to buy the track and run 410 sprints on a regular basis. There is no money in it.

Knoxville struggles to get cars...you think they can do it at 34?

Who's the dude who has these big ideas? Is he related to Chris Luck?

every track is hurting with fewer cars and fewer fans. the economy is the main reason. we are going to struggle till economy changes, then will car owners and fans come back. if this is true about 410 on fridays it would help knoxville. I would not believe it till I see it. some of the long time car owners get out of racing and discover that other things are going on in life and doubt if any would come back with a better economy.

What would be the opinion of you all on a, (Amy)included, on an ASCS National series race at 34?

Question for the Knoxville posters? When was the last time there was a weekly Friday/Sunday track within an hour or two of Knoxville? I am assuming there had to be some additional option before 360s came into existence and 410 car counts were a lot larger. But it just seems as though creating an additional night of racing for 410s in an area where the culture is one night a week would be a tough nut to crack.

Unless it was in the 60s or 70s (which I doubt), the answer is never. The closest tracks that run (or have run) 410s weekly are Husets and Jacksonville (IL) - which are both 4+ hours from Knoxville. Iowa has like 99 dirt tracks, but all but 1 (I'll let you guess which one) run exclusively stock cars. 34 Raceway in Burlington used to run weekly wingless supermods, then winged supermods, then 360s, and now 305s -- and has some 360 & 410 specials, but that is about it. A few of the stock car tracks in eastern Iowa run 360 specials (Sprint Invaders), but certainly would never run sprints weekly. The Iowa State Fairgrounds used to run weekly 360s on Friday nights, but quit that about a decade ago because of lack of car count/interest. It takes a pretty stout engine to get around Knoxville, so a lot of teams invest in a good one and just run Knoxville. If someone bought 34 Raceway and started running 410s weekly on Friday nights, I imagine they would only draw the Jacksonville IL area cars that primarily run the MOWA races now, with a few Knoxville cars (Brown, Lasoski, etc) from time to time. I wish Iowa had the population/fan interest/rich car owners to support more than 1 track a week (ala the Commonwealth), but it seems that in tougher stretches it is hard enough to draw 30 cars once a week at Kville. I'm hoping that Cruse & McCarl can pair their promotional talents and set up a speedweek that pays well ($4-5k to win) and runs at some "stock car" tracks that don't normally run sprints. With the right timing and promotional effort, that could be successful. Other than that, I think we should just be thankful for what we've got... and Pennsylvania should be thankful too!

My dad use to hold Friday night 410 shows at Osky in 1982

He use to hire almost all the same official that worked in Knoxville too. He lost his ass doing it. Osky won't allow a promoter to get any of the beer and concession sales and that year had a lot of rain dates.

Iowa could definitely do more to build up sprint car racing but probably not weekly at the 410 level. I know the idea was kicked around for an Iowa sprint week but never launched. I remember Webster city hosted a couple sprint shows in the early 90s i remember attending my first sprint race there and seeing randy smith spank em Marshalltown, boone, farley could all be decent tracks but I doubt the promotion would be there. The Iowa speedway has stolen all the thunder and pulled a lot of race fan dollars out of the market.
More weight, more regulation, more similarity in the
cars.... that will ensure plenty of thrills for years
to come. Only the most average talent behind the
wheel will be needed with such awesome equipment on
the track!

I-80 Speedway in Nebraska attempted to run 410s (and 360s) on Friday nights in 1995. They ran 7 weeks before dropping the 410's/ Johnny Herrera won all 7 races in the Forbrook 5.

I use to go to the webster city races too. Mike thomas would run them still using a castiron block

That's where I got the bug as a young lad. Never saw a sprint car before that. We are letting a whole generation miss out on these opportunities when we don't go race in other venues. Nationally sprint car racing is non existent unless u live in indiana, Ohio penn or a couple areas in Cali. It's sad for me to see kids hooked on mma and Xbox when such awesome live entertainment exists but is isolated.

Ahhh Chilly W. I told you many years ago to come to Indy to live if you wanna see plenty of sprint car racing. I recall you saying that it was hard as (at the time) you lived 40 miles from "Heaven" and I asked you what you did the other 6 nights of the week.........

I wish 34 Raceway would have another USAC race. I wasnt able to go the last time they were there. The only time I have been there was when a USAC race got rained out at Bloomington, and it was early enough in the day that I was able to make it over for the IRA as I recall it was. Anyways that was the night Hockett spun out, started dead last and slide jobbed his way to 2nd. He was on his way to Bloomington when he heard it got rained out and went to 34 instead. I told Hockett when he was climbing out of his car that "I hate to say this, but I'm glad you spun out and had to restart at the rear" It made the long drive over worthwhile.
