Hey guys, I am building a model of the car that won the first sprintcar race I ever saw as a very young child....It's the ViseGrip #20 Trostle as driven by Shane Carson in 79 or 80...the one with the simple graphics...white and yellow with a red stripe between the 2 colors... I have been in contact with Shane through JL Stew because for some reason my email will not accept anything sent from Shanes email...I am posting this request here because i know both of them, as well as several other people watch this site frequently... I am using an old Revell/Monogram Kinser kit and doing some chassis mods and part switching to make it look more like a car from that era...I have my wheels, tires, fuelcell and a few other different than kit parts already in hand..I have custom decals and a Trostle looking hood coming from a guy who does great work on those items...I plan on making custom bumpers and nerfs to match what i see in the few pics I have of the car. Some of my questions are... The hand grooved drag slick looking tires...weren't they typically Firestones? Dry sump or wet sump engines back then? if dry sump where was the tank? Fuel pump inside cockpit on motorplate or belt drive in front of the engine? Outboard brakes on both rear wheels or inboard on the left side back then? Power or manual steering? if power where was that pump located? Halibrand rearend or some other brand? I know what the halibrands from that time period look like colorwise but if something else was used I will have to do some more research.. In-Out box with a shift lever sticking up off the torque tube? Any sort of ignition box used back then or was the ignition just a mag and switch? Was the seat a bolt in bucket seat or were they still using the seats that looked "built in" to the car with upholstery that buttoned to the tailtank and body panels? And finally, do any of you guys have any pics that you could post to help me with some of the details? I would be very happy with pics of this particular car, but could also use pics of any Trostle car from that era to help me with making my rollcage and frame modifications a bit more accurate.. Feel free to post any and all assistance on here or email me at [email protected] if thats easier for you... Thanks in advance for any help I get and thanks again to Shane, JLStew and GWSTexas for all the help I have received so far...
Loose is when you hit the wall with the rear of the
car, tight is when you hit the wall with the front of
the car. Horsepower is how fast you hit the wall and
torque is how far you move the wall.
