Don't know about anyone else, but I noticed the following changes during my first visit of the year:

No more fountain pop, everything is bottles only (I personally hate it, but it's probably a lot better so they can keep track of inventory).

Nachos have changed to where they don't really make them for you, but the line goes quicker.

Some painting under the grandstand to make the beams and cross members white (a lot easier to see and I don't see people hitting their heads on them as they walk through like I used to).

Nametags (noticed everyone except the fairboard taking tickets had name badges with their name, photo and what they do (concessions, security, etc.) on them.

Push trucks had the track ran in @ 6:30 and cars were ready for hot laps @ 6:45 (the advertised time) - hope this continues all season except those nights when the heat index is 100 degrees @ 6:45.

Announcing - wow, what a world of difference having Blake and Tony back together, I personally think they should take Whitey's mic away entirely: "So Joey, after setting quick time, the worst you can start tonight is 3rd in the feature" WHATT???? Everyone that attends any race @ Knoxville knows that's not the case (Joey hadn't even ran a heat race yet, and even under a non-woo format, the BEST he would start is 6th in the feature if he advanced through a heat race), get this FOOL away from the mic, he hurts the tracks credibility.

Another thing different this year was in the bathrooms no more trouph it's all individual urinals now. I'm not big on the bottle pop either, although I think it helps move the line along faster as the fountain pop could back the line up typically.

I applaud Knoxville for upgrading even the small things. I agree I like fountain pop better but I can completely understand why they went with bottles. Plus they can probably recoup some of the costs with redeeming the bottles...although small. The nachos are served when you get them up in the suites. Again. I'm sure to speed up the lines...which is fine with me! The tenderloins were awesome. I had to try them after I heard they are the same ones that the church services in the HyVee lot during nationals only not the same size. I think this is Northcote Meats in Melcher produces these. I thought opening night was great with the cars from E.C. there and the slideways carts front and center. Bathrooms were a nice upgrade. Tony, Blake do a great job. I like that they have a show at 6 but still like listening to the 5:30 show on KNIA KRLS. It was difficult being able to hear the dialogue between the two on my phone...which has a good speaker phone for a hand held device. On a racing note...another great racing surface by the Dunkins. Looking forward to great season at the greatest dirt track on EARTH! Saturday night can not get here soon enough.

I have been peeing in those old bathroom metal troughs since my daddy had to pick me up to reach my weinky over the edge. Though nice upgrade to the modern urinal.

and yes the tenderloins are from Northcote Meats, the same place in the Hy Vee lot. I just asked Ryan Northcote, I'll be getting one at every race.

Kudos to the track. Many positive changes. They really kept the program moving all night too. One heat done, next one rolling onto the track. No wasted laps before the green. Quickly back after cautions and red flags. You could tell the drivers were aware Of the expectations as well. Good job all around. We often bring new fans and the attention to time is one of the biggest things a track can do to maintain interest and get people returning. Thanks!

don't forget the increased pit passes for the teams, a brand new set of front tires even if they didn't need them, and a brand new shiny muffler. yep, more changes

Anyone know what was illegal with Higday's tires that caused his DQ? Glad to see Van Haften win after leading the last handful of laps before running up the back of that lapped car on the final turn 3. Brown looked fast, thought this might have been his night for his first WoO win. Sorry to see him stick to the top only, even in traffic.

I take it you could have put on a better show

This will be the only time they can use the tire?

My pass did not go up maybe you went to the wrong window or did you go to a window ?

I believe someone posted that Higday had a RD12 instead of a D12 on

Don't mind the changes, but my 5 year old can no longer reach over what used to be the trough (now the urinals) and either I pick him up and hold him or he pees in his face trying to reach paydirt.

I did not pick a fight just asked questions which you told me nothing

you said they bought 2 tires they don't need?

Why don't they need those tires?

Because most teams use Hoosier front tires, they're cheaper than Goodyear fronts, but with the Outlaws rules you have to run Goodyear fronts so some teams that don't run a lot with the Outlaws don't purchase goodyear fronts, so those teams had to buy goodyear fronts to run this past weekend at Knoxville. Granted starting June 2nd Knoxville will also be adopting the goodyear front tire rule.

A front tire rule? most teams with limited budgets just run anything they can get their hands on. I've seen cars with a Hoosier RR, a GY LR and American racer patched up LF RF. Just like politics I wonder whos pocket these kick backs go into.

Tire rules are suppose to make racing more affordable at the local track. This doesn't do that.

I believe what ethel meant was

More FREE pit passes for the teams that participated "full time" at Knoxville last year

FREE front tires, even if you had them (Goodyears being required on all 4 corners this year in the 410's instead of just the rears)

And FREE new mufflers for the regular Knoxville teams due to the new muffler rule.

True or not on all counts, I don't know. Just how I read it.

Not everybody on this forum is negative and looking for trouble. Might be time for you to get your head out of your ass. (By the way... not trying to pick a fight, just sayin'...)

Exactly, I'd say the kickback from this rule goes to BadYear! If I remember correctly this Goodyear tire deal was a 3 year deal, if I'm not mistaken this is the 3rd year, hopefully all the tracks and organizations that are on this goodyear deal doesn't re-sign after this year! In my opinion best tire rule to save racers money would be let the racers run any brand of tire they desire and make it a 1 RR tire per night, have a durometer rule for both rear tires and check them as they go out for Time Trial or their heat race depending on format being ran. Let the tire companies compete for business and maybe the prices will come down and help the racers even more!

Amen! A 1 RR per night and durometer rule...YES! A tire brand rule...NO!

It's exactly like politics. You grease our palm and we'll give you a kickback. No concern for the average Joe.

True, the local 360 and 410 teams got FREE mufflers (I was at the Banquet where they announced the rule and told everyone that their packets contained their certificate to get free mufflers for racing at Knoxville in 2011), the 305's do not have to run this muffler in 2012.

Doubt they got free front tires, however many of those 410 teams had already raced with the Outlaws once this year (either in Florida, Missouri or Illinois and some in California and Nevada), so they didn't spend any $$ on front tires, they purchased them earlier in the year to compete with them. (On a side note, they can still use the Hoosiers until June @ Kville or sell them to a 360 or 305 team)

Pit passes (from what I see on the website, prices are the same as they were in 2011, teams with perfect attendance in 2011 did recieve FREE pit passes for a certain # of races for 2012 just like they did in 2011 (again, I was at the banquet and heard this information).
